4.0 out of 5 stars Alex North's haunting score preserved along with dialogue excertps, October 21, 2007
This review is from: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? [Original Music from the Motion Picture] (Audio CD)
The main reason for getting this CD is to hear Alex North's evocative, haunting music score. Some of the cues heard here never made it into the final film including the charming harpsichord arrangement written as an entr'acte but not used because the film had no intermission.

This was actually one of two soundtrack albums Warner Bros. issued in conjunction with the release of the film in 1966. On this album we hear the music score along with some dialogue excerpts. There was also a deluxe 2 LP set released containing almost all of the film's dialogue (but without the music score.) The album was notable since several lines had to be softened before the film could be released while the unexpurgated versions were heard in the records. Today with the film readily available on DVD there is hardly a need for a CD issue of this set but thanks to DRG this recording of Alex North's score is finally available again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack, February 13, 2010
This review is from: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? [Original Music from the Motion Picture] (Audio CD)
Straight from 1966. It's got that cinematic vibe that's almost a story in itself. But in case the music didn't evoke enough for you, they've got small snippets of dialogue from the movie itself - which adds darkness to darkness. The score is beautifully dark and eerie with the presence of beautiful harp, acoustic guitars replacing or being overtaken by gut-wrench string scores. This is a fun one to have on your computer speakers while you work on-line. I like the soundtrack music from this era and Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf is a classic - the soundtrack taken on it's own terms is a revelation. May want to make you catch the movie, if you haven't seen it already (which I haven't).
