Book Description

Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj, a dual board certified facial plastic surgeon in private practice in New York City, performs hundreds of cosmetic surgery procedures a year on ethnic or non-Caucausian patients. After hearing an overwhelming number of discouraged Ethnic and African-American patients complain that there was nowhere they could turn for even basic information to answer their particular cosmetic surgery questions, he felt compelled to write this essential and honest consumer guide to address their very specific desires, questions and concerns. Dr. Slupchynskyj believes educating patients to be one of the most important roles of a plastic surgeon.

In the past decade, there has been an unprecedented demand for cosmetic procedures, specifically in the ethnic population. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that since 2000, cosmetic plastic surgery procedures for ethnic patients are up a whopping 129 percent for African Americans and 173 percent for Hispanics. Socio-economic and media influences provide easier access and acceptance to cosmetic surgery in the minority communities. Two-time elected and current President of the United States, Barack Obama, has also placed African-Americans in the limelight. Cosmetic surgery today is no longer the domain of Caucasians and can no longer be characterized by race, or gender. Yet, despite these incredible statistics, African-American facial cosmetic surgery has and still remains the most neglected, least understood and least talked about.

If you are considering Rhinoplasty Surgery, African-American and Ethnic Rhinoplasty is the ideal book to guide you through the process. Author Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj, a Double Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon with a private practice in New York City is an expert when it comes to African-American Rhinoplasty.

After hearing an overwhelming number of discouraged Ethnic and African-American patients complained that they had nowhere to turn for even basic information to answer their specific Cosmetic Surgery questions, he felt compelled to write this essential and honest consumer guide to address their very specific desires, questions and concerns.

Also of interest: "before" and "after" photos of several African-American celebrities to examine if the apparent changes in nasal structure could have arisen from such techniques as applied lighting, photo retouching, makeup shading, or if the subject could have undergone Rhinoplasty to reshape the nose.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Depth Guide on Ethnic Nose Surgery March 12, 2014
I was thrilled to see this book come out as there is very little published on ethnic plastic nose surgery (or rhinoplasty), risks and benefits, history of surgical techniques, and the latest advances in techniques. The portfolio of actual patient before and after photos are amazing. You can see for yourself, in pictures, exactly what Dr. Slupchynskyj discusses throughout the book. This also serves as an excellent guide on how to select a plastic surgeon (do's and don'ts), what to do to prepare for surgery and what to do after. This lets you know precisely what to expect including possible complications and how to avoid them, Critical info. I found the last chapter, "Did They or Didn't They", about celebrity plastic surgery fun to read as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for physicians and patients March 28, 2014
I found this book very informative and well written. Dr. Slupchynskyj accurately points out the unique challenges of an African American or ethnic rhinoplasty. It is rare to have a medical book that is helpful and understandable to both patients and physicians. I will certainly recommend this book to any of my patients considering rhinoplasty. Well Done!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful primer! March 26, 2014

As a co-owner of a NYC Medispa, this book is a welcome relief to our African-American and other Ethnic skin types who love our non-invasive cosmetic services and are ready to undertake more advanced and invasive procedures. All of their concerns are allayed once they meet Dr. "Oleh" as they know they are getting the same warm and caring services that we have provided for almost 17 years. This a must-read if you are considering Rhinoplasty and especially with Dr. Slupchynskyj.
