African American Psychology, written by Faye Z. Belgrave & Kevin W. Considering both the traditional American psychology literature as well as the more recent Africentric scholarship, this book offers comprehensive coverage of the research and theory that have developed over the past two decades. African American Psychology offers a timely broad-based overview of key topics and research specifically relevant to the psychology of African American culture.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"None of the other books on African American Psychology provides such a thorough review of issues." (Vernessa Clark )

“This is the book that we have been waiting for - it is a must read . . .”

(Harvette Grey, Ph.D. )

"There is no book out there right now like this. . . [T]here is nothing as comprehensive.  This would be a helpful resource. . . The main strength is the comprehensive scope, which I find very exciting."

(Arthur Jones )

"Drs. Belgrave and Allison are to be commended for what can be considered the first comprehensive textbook on African American psychology ever . . ."

(Shawn O. Utsey, Ph.D. )

"Covers all the relevant material related to psychology and African Americans and orients the reader well to the research in a variety of areas….has potential for strong appeal among scholars and inthe academy."

(Craig C. Brookins )

"After examining the book, I contacted Sage and thanked them for this impressive text and told several of my colleagues about the book, in particular those who taught similar courses or had relevant research interests. College and university faculty may want to supplement the book with other readings, but i very highly recommend this book for reference, undergraduate classes, or introductory graduate courses or for other social scientists who want an overview of the research and theory related to the psychology of African Americans." (Eddie M. Clark Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books )

This is a great book!! However, I was very surprised that there were no pictures in this book. The concepts discussed in this book are very interesting and have given me a lot to think about. I would definitely recommend this book someone else.
