5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of African music, March 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: African Blues (Audio CD)
I really like most of the rough guide African series I've heard and this is one of the best. Most of the cuts are in a laid back mode (certainly they aren't blues in the traditional American sense) but it includes several really great cuts including Rokia Traore, Cesaria Evora and Oumou Sangare, three of the best-loved African women stars of the world music circuit. If you want to check out African music from throughout the continent this is a good selection of great tracks. (Another rough guide I really enjoyed was the Senegal/Gambia collection.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Introducing African Music, August 20, 2000

Very interesting and original mixture of good music. I found clasic masterpieces (Ismael Lo, Cesaria Evora, Oumou Sangare) and many auochthonous melodies, perhaps only enjoyable for local people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music you can return to again and again, September 2, 2011

I've had this album for years, and have come back to it again and again over the years. My wife and now my kids love it, too. The songs are just so beautiful, and the production level is high on most tracks.
