Great bedtime CD,

This review is from: African Dreamland (Audio CD)
I bought Dreamland & African Dreamland last week, and this one arrived today, and it's great! Very calming music to play during the bedtime routine, and best of all, it's the type of CD you can play on repeat & not get sick of.
I'm a big fan of the Putumayo Presents series, and so far, I haven't had any disappointments with any of them.

This review is from: African Dreamland (Audio CD)
The latest in the "Dreamland" series of music CDs, African Dreamland is a treat for listeners of all ages, featuring peaceful and relaxing melodies by African singers. Some songs are purely vocal; others are accompanied by traditional instruments such as the kora, mbira, and balafon. All are a wonderful lullaby tunes ideal for helping listeners young or old drift off to sleep. The tracks (representing a diversity of African nations and cultures) are "Nomathemba", "Mimi", "Lonon", "Douyore", "Agalilala", "Usa Cheme", "Ikope Ye Tollo", "Mali Sadio", "Salaman", "Kula Bebe", and "Sao Horas de Dormir"; liner notes in English, Spanish, French, and German are included. A portion of the sales proceeds from "African Dreamland" will be donated to NextAid, a non-profit organization committed to creating and implementing solutions to the difficult challenges confronting African children.

I searched high and low for CDs to play for my baby at bedtime that I could enjoy, too. Out of all the CDs that I tried, this is far and away my favorite. The music is gorgeous and relaxing for both baby and mom.

Amazing,
This review is from: African Dreamland (Audio CD)
My wife at some point got this CD from the library. It is amazing. Absolutely beautiful. I am a white male in my mid-30s who likes rock and alternative music, yet this CD has totally captured me. I don't want to set your expectations too high, maybe this is just one of those personal things, but I highly recommend it. My favorite song is number 6 "Chiwoniso". When it comes on I just want to cry. It really reaches me on a different level, but all the songs are quite touching.

Great for kids and adults,

I love that you can listen to exerts online before you purchase. Our 13 month daughter loves the music and my husband and I find we enjoy it and use it as we wind down for the evening. There is no high pitched, annoying women voices as most generic bedtime CD's. The message comes across that these are traditional lullaby's sung with love to their children- I think a great way to link the gap between cultures. Also love the Asian Dreamland and the Latin Playground (the first Putumayo CD we encountered- our daughter perks up and dances immediately when she hears the Latin playground)

The kids love it during the day, or even when my daughter drifts off to sleep. Putomayo CD's have always been one of her bedtime favorites. Some nice tracks for her to listen to as she nods off for the night. I even enjoy listening to some of them as they have a good rhythm.
Not only does it provide musical entertainment, this one is also a learning piece. Sometimes the kids ask questions about where the music comes from, or what instrument is being played. Highly recommend all Putomayo for those who are "enlightened" and actually find some value in new culture, those other than our narrow own.

This is one of the two CDs our baby will regularly fall asleep to for nap times. It's soothing for the baby, but also not so repetitive and annoying (like many songs geared towards babies and small children) that I go crazy listening to it. We LOVE it!

Starting at 6 weeks old, we added this to our newborn's nighttime routine. The soothing music helps calm her, but is interesting enough for me to listen to as we get ready for bed. A terrific album.

I love world music. I find listening to world music transport me to the country whose music I am listening to. Putumayo is go to series for world music. I am constantly devouring whatever Putumayo compilation I can get my hands on. My latest favorite compilation from Putumayo is AFRICAN DREAMLAND from the Putumayo Kids series. Although the compilation is part of the DREAMLAND series for kids, I think it is suited for adults just as well as for children. The upbeat rhythms of drums and percussions and delicate acoustic melodies is soothing and relaxing to listen to while getting ready for bed. The album is short but sweet. There is not a single song on the album that I did not enjoy. The music is rich in melodies and instrumentation. Putumayo has once again created another wondeful compilation.
