Johnny Clegg and Sipho Mchunu's second album, considered their breakthough album, through word of mouth and live performances. They were shunned by the SA Broadcasting Corporation(state controlled all radio/TV)due to their blending of black and white languages and music. Contains absolute classics like: " African Sky Blue", "Impi", "Heart of The Dancer".

Its crazy that some of Juluka's albums are so hard to come by and generally out of stock and then second-hand for laughable prices. I want you all to know that you can purchase all Johnny Clegg, Juluka and Savuka material easily and cheaply from South Africa, and also from European countries(if not as cheaply), most notably France, where Clegg is somewhat of a household name. So do use your imagination, do some browsing and spread the music.

Riding down National Highway 2, just north of Durban, I, a visitor from the New Jersey burbs, hear the chanted chorus of IMPI for the first time. This ingenious mixture of Zulu chant, Kwela guitar stylings and Celtic folk grabbed me from the start. Yes, I just saw Johnny and the band again yesterday evening in Manhattan, and the memories of seeing Juluka in 1980 came rushing in. My wife and I brought our original album cover and got the coveted autograph.
It is truly sad that until recently the cost of Juluka's music has been jacked here in North America-- I saw copies of African Litany and Universal Men going for over $30.00. Glad to see that Amazon has the downloads for a reasonable price.
Definitely grab the Juluka titles, and then sample some tracks from Suvuka, Johnny's follow-up band. Having lived in the Republic for two years, I can testify that Clegg's beutiful lyrics, in Zulu and English,as well as the afro-ska-reggae-folk hooks, reflect the beauty that is the people and lanscape of South Africa. Still not convinced-- take in one of the Clegg Band's shows, and witness how the room comes increasingly alive. Five numbers into the set had a Monday evening crowd out of their seats and gyrating to Scatterlings of Africa.

This cd has My all time Favorite of all of Johnny Clegg songs, even though I Believe Sipho Wrote this song. Gijm'Beke. One listen to this Powerhouse and I became a True Believer. Also two Outstanding Classics on this cd are Impi and Heart Of The Dancer. If you are into Juluka and Johnny Clegg Material, then this cd is an Absolute Must buy. You Can't go Wrong with this classic.Crank up that Stereo of Yours when You get to those three songs I mentioned. Kick Back and Enjoy.
