About the Author

SAMAKI (Sharon Bernhardt) was born in London but came to Africa when she was a year old. For the following five years she lived in the remotest parts of southern and east Africa. During this time she spoke the relevant local language and was barely able to converse in English at all. Encouraged by one of her dearest friends, Credo Mutwa, she has fulfilled a lifelong ambition in writing "African Names". Samaki is an accomplished graphic designer and was inspired by her surroundings to create the charming artwork for her book.
