4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating glimpse of fascinating women's lives, October 22, 2007

This review is from: African Nomadic Architecture: Space, Place and Gender (Paperback)
This is a cool book. It is not a quick and easy read (though you can get a fair overview by browsing the photos and captions), it goes into fascinating detail, and it can be challenging to consider some of the perspectives. I liked the focus on viewing these cultures from predominantly the female point of view. These women and their cultures offer us valuable insights about ways of interacting with the environment, value systems, and ways of managing life that can expand our thinking. I, for one, especially appreciated the glimpse of the "nomad aesthetic," which has a very different view of the beauty and value of "things" than we Western, sedentary folk have.
