Editorial Reviews

Fascinated by the ancient Greek legend of Orestes, Pasolini travels not to Greece but to Africa. In this 1970 release we can see background footage of tribal customs and rituals, vaguely intending to use these shots for a film about an "African Orestes." That picture is never made, but what he winds up with is fascinating enough to compensate for the loss.

Format: DVD
Four stars for the film, which as a "making of" documentary about a film that never ended up getting made--shades of "Lost in La Mancha"--is a fascinating object of meta-cinema and auto-critique. Minus one star for the cover, which has the name of the director MISSPELLED. Making it worse, is the fact that it's the biggest word on the cover. It's Pasolini, idiots, not Passolini. Gawd.
