Book Description

Complete Guides March 1, 1998
The African Violet continues to increase in popularity, having developed over the past 50 years from its few hundred varieties to the thousands that exist today in an ever-increasing range of color and type. This complete guide includes chapters on the plant's history, development, and classification, and a wealth of practical information and advice on propagation, general care, hybridization, and the prevention and treatment of pests and diseases. Written in a non-technical and readable style, it explodes the myth that African Violets are difficult to grow and provides the grower with the know-how to make the most of this delightful and popular plant.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This informative book, with eight pages of color photographs and 28 line drawings, begins with a brief history of this popular houseplant and continues with a chapter explaining the three main types of African violets, their sizes, and the shapes of their flowers and leaves. There's a list describing 167 hybrids and instructions on their cultivation (light, temperature, compost, watering, humidity, and feeding); propagation; rejuvenation; hybridization; and pests, diseases, and disorders. There's also advice on exchanging hybrids with other growers and on exhibiting plants. George Cohen --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Latest Book on African Violets, December 22, 2000
This review is from: African Violets: The Complete Guide (Complete Guides) (Paperback)
This is the latest book on African Violets and it is certainly one of the most updated ones regarding techniques and products available in the market. This book shows how to propagate, cultivate/grow and show your beloved African Violets. Great ideas on type of water, soil, light, humidity to obtain great show plants. Also, it has ideas on how to prevent diseases such as cyclamen mites, crown rot, ... Great book for beginners and even for those wanting to hybridize their African Violets.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION, January 13, 2006
This review is from: African Violets: The Complete Guide (Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Being an enthusiastic hobbyist, I have found this work to be most helpful. In one way or abother, this one work is able to answer the majority of my questions and has certainly enhansed my ability to enjoy by hobby. Of course one book can not do it all, but this one certainly comes very close. I collect books on the subject of African Violets and enjoy them almost as much as actually collecting, raising and enjoying the plants. This work has been a great addition to my collection and I highly recommend it.
