5.0 out of 5 stars Wild jungle beat music, April 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Africana & Beyond! (Audio CD)
Chaino's music is hard to describe, but once you've heard it you won't forget it. Often mis-filed under "lounge" or "easy listening," Chaino rocks far more than Esquivel or Enoch Light. Basically, it is '50s Hollywood-style African percussion, but crazier than most. You may already know Chaino as his stuff has appeared as background music in the movie "Forces of Nature" and on the TV shows "Sex and the City" and "The Real World." This CD contains material from his various '50s albums. Fans of the "Las Vegas Grind" series should really dig Chaino.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chaino, a true genius., August 28, 2000
This review is from: Africana & Beyond! (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of all kinds of music, especially primitive rhythms, for many years, and have a great respect for, the origin of music. I cannot believe what this man Chaino has done to african music . He is the first congo drummer who not only has reinvented primitive percussion, but for the first time, I can enjoy listening to his work. Though still a fan of african drumming, I have always found it boring to listen to until Chaino brought life into it, giving it a new meaning. This CD is so different, I can't describe it. I can't find a musical catagory for it. This could be a beginning of a new sound if some music producer could incorporate it into rock or in other ways and create new primitive dances for the kids to enjoy instead of the negative, demoralizing and demeaning rap music.

5.0 out of 5 stars our love life has blossomed, April 18, 2000

This review is from: Africana & Beyond! (Audio CD)
when discussing my sex life with my dear husband with a friend, she handed me a strange looking cd and said, "take this and say nothing". I surmised that she wanted me to take it home and play it. I did and when I put it on our cd player and played it, I became disturbed at the sexual feelings I experienced from it, but when I played it for my husband, he demanded to shut that crap off. that evening there was no sex as usual, "wham, bam, thank you maam", but we both experienced wild sex like we've never had in our 28 year marriage. he later accused me of fooling around but, when I convinced him it was the music, he said,"turn it back on". tho he still doesn't like the cd for himself, he encourages me to listed to it. when I told my friend what that cd did for our sex life, she told me how it saved her marriage. now even tho some of my friends laugh at me when I tell them how it brought real spice back into my marriage,I don't care. my husband is much kinder and more attentive even tho we have an almost savage sexual relationship since. I just wanted to share this with other wives who think that's the way things are when you're married a long time.It doesn't have to be that way. now I can't wait for my husband to come home, and he can't wait to come home either. thank you for allowing me to write this.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Chaino" The congo drummer who re-invented African Music.", October 9, 2001
This review is from: Africana & Beyond! (Audio CD)
I have enjoyed the elated pleasure of being the only Record Producer of all of Chaino's primitive/Exotic works 40 to 45 years ago. There were a total of 8 LP's that were released out of the 300 or so master tapes that are almost ready to release on the market, with just 6 that have been found so far. It seems the more fans of primitive/Exotic music who discover him, become fans of Chaino. As a team, Chaino and I were able to bring out the best of his talent, aided by a rare extremely talented studio recording engineer, John Campbell, a true genius, who joined us in a venture together to become, mentally and emotionally, virtually, "one single unit." By using the power of total/complete positives as one unit, we automatically compounded our individual power of positives ten fold with total trust and confidence in ourselves, in each other and in our ability to accomplish the impossible. This little known magnification of power in numbers of 2 or more people gave us more than just good teamwork, but further beyond the imagination. There is no doubt that Chaino's works will not only live forever, but will become a basis for new sounds in future recorded music.

5.0 out of 5 stars To the many fans of "CHAINO", September 23, 2000

As the creator and producer of all of Chaino's music, I thank all of you for keeping the name of this truely great "creative" artist alive. Tho he is no longer with us, it seems his work is destined to live on. I also thank and commend Mr. Lee Joseph of "Dionysus Records" for his foresight in his production of the CD, "CHAINO AFRICANA AND BEYOND" using 27 selections from my origional productions, of my "6" 40 year old lp's. Also, for his efforts in securing contracts on some of the Chaino selections in the CD, with the following Motion Pictures and Television productions; Steven Speilberg's, "DREAM WORKS", "THE FORCES OF NATURE" featuring, Saundra Bullock, and Ben Affleck, A direct to TV movie, "GOLFBALLS", MTV's "Real life" series, "Fox sport network, "INVERT 99", and, "HBO", "SEX AND THE CITY". Respectfully Submitted, Kirby Allan

First off, it is great to have so many awesome Chaino Africana tracks on one CD but the cover is misleading. This CD contains 27 tracks but does not include the complete Chaino Africana lp shown on the CD cover. 4 Tracks from the original lp are not included. The missing tracks are Congo Serenade, Bongo Beat, Slave Train, and Afro Cha Cha. The liner notes explain that their tape warehouse was ransacked and many tapes were missing. Yet many of the album tracks are obviously taken from vinyl (little if any de-click processing was employed) so it is a curiosity why the producers didn't take all of the original lp. They do include many wonderful tracks from other Chaino lp's. Most if not all are stereo. While many tracks are from vinyl, several others are from master tapes. The liner notes don't include details as to the sources of the tracks but say the sources are "logged". This is still a must have CD for fans of early stereo, lounge, etc...

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome and beyond comprehension, June 25, 2011
This review is from: Africana & Beyond! (Audio CD)
Get this CD. Not sure I beleive all the hype surrounding it and the Chaino as African story is suspect (I think I read somewhere that he was from the Compton area) but get this CD. This is possibly the most raw and real and touch-the-nerves music on the planet.

I see the producer Kirby Allan thanking others for this, but really, who but the producer could have corralled this rawness into something cohesive.

Kudos to Chaino AND to Kirby Allan.
