excelente!!!,
By Ramiro P. Molina "peace, love, and cosmic vib... (paranaque, metro manila Philippines) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: LA Africania De LA Musica Folklorica De Cuba (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
No other book can ever document, showcase and bring to light, the folkloric music and traditional culture of Cuba and its roots in Africa. Written by the person who coined the term "afrocubano", Fernando Ortiz was a prolific writer on many aspects of African Cuban culture. This literature takes us on an in-depth look on afrocuban music, its history, religious and secular significance, the instruments and very structured musical notations of the different parts of an ensemble, covering the different traditional music of the tribes of Africa and its importance and relevance when it was brought to Cuba. This is truly, not only an afrocuban musician's 'found treasure', but a musician's (in general) pot of gold! This also goes well for lay people (not musicians) who are interested in the study of afrocuban music and culture. Written in Spanish, this is the very reason why I purchased myself a scanner and a Spanish-English translator software. This will be the 'bible' for afrocuban music for a very, very long time. And if it is 'the bible', it is imperative that you must have it.
