Editorial Reviews

Universally regarded as the most accomplished flautist in jazz, Hubert Laws has done much more than build a bridge between jazz and classical music; he has melded his diverse influences seamlessly with a fully singular approach. Afro-Classic includes brilliant interpretations of Bach, Mozart and James Taylor plus a gorgeous version of Theme from Love Story. This timeless classic by the genre-busting poll-winning flautist features Bob James, Ron Carter, and incredible arrangements by Don Sebesky, --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Depth into Afro-Class, August 2, 2010

This review is from: Afro-Classic (Audio CD)
In a Silent Way, Miles and Zawinul went into classic music via Austria with a jazz overtone that broke all the standing rules driven by the consciousness movement in the Usa and around the waking world. Afro-Classic feeds of that idea and shows the music world that mixing is a welcome idea as long as it is done by the rules of international compositions and sounds. Hubert after all before classical, was a jazz musician that went World before it's time with Mongo Santamaria. An excellent adventure into compositional magic going into a realm that Jean Pierre Rampal tried but could not soul. A dinner favorite in my realm of tasty music.
