Since its formation in 2001, Novalima has been breaking down boundaries, uniting seemingly irreconcilable genres, communities and generations to create an inspiring movement that has revolutionized the music scene in their native Peru. Founded by four friends from Lima with a shared passion for both traditional Afro-Peruvian music and modern DJ culture, Novalima searches for the common ground ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Setting a new standard in Global Beats February 20, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Afro is the first international release by four Lima born producers known as Novalima. For the last few years they have been on a mission to bring Afro-Peruvian music up to date in the same way as Nicomedes Santa Cruz and others did decades ago when the fragile existence of this music was fading. The result is magnificent. Its raw and acoustic but at the same time electronic. Dark but soulful. Deep and haunting at times. They are joined on this album by some of the finest Afro-Peruvian musicians on cajon, guitar and vocals giving every song a live feel and the album includes additional production on all tracks by Nitin Sawhney's and Da Lata's studio wizard Toni Economides. If you loved Gotan Project you will love this and in my mind these are much better worked songs, with greater diversity and depth. Absolutely superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes!!!... October 29, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great African-Peruvian music fussion, it has jazz, electronica, rock and Latin American beats mixed with the wonderful music from African descendants in Peru, the ones that created wonderful music like Negroide, Lando, Festejo, Zamacueca, all amazing and beautiful rhythms and musical styles. I love this band and will be getting all their CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Afro-Peruvian at its best June 22, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This was my first experience with Novalima. They are great musicians who make great music. You can hear Afro-Cuban influences on many of these tracks. This is now part of my permanent Latin music collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT ATTEMPT TO CREATE ELECTRO-NEGROIDE.. January 28, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I give Novalima credit for trying to emulate the electrotango movement of Argentina with traditional Afro-Peruvian songs. However, I think that the CD would have been better if it would have included more cajon rhythyms and more musicalization along with the lounge sound... But it's a very soothing CD. If you listen to it, it'll very enjoyable... This CD is not your traditional Afro-Peruvian music CD, but is very creative and it'll certainly lead the way for the development of a new wave of Electro-Negroide.
