This is a great companion-book to the televised series.

The writing, (in English), is nothing special; the fairly basic story line and dialogue following your roaming samurai. There are obviously some unique aspects here, but not exceedingly so.

The illustrations, however, are expertly executed and well worth your time. This is a black and white publication fanned periodically with the crimson of blood. The result, to me, is austere but pleasing. Takashi Okazaki's artistry is undeniable.

This is the second in a two-volume set and it includes Chapters 6 through 10.

Also housed in this book:

An Honorifics Guide, which explains the polite, appropriate Japanese nomenclatures used when addressing specific indivuals.

Translation Notes that break down some of the metaphors in the story. Example: "Afureru is a Japanese verb meaning to overflow, to run over the brim." Hence, Afro's hair.

A short interview with Takashi Okazaki.

This is a great little package totaling some 165 pages and well worth the low prices I'm seeing here.
