Editorial Reviews

Two of the bloodiest, best-selling and critically acclaimed anime of all time in one supreme collection.

Afro Samurai. A relentless brother wielding an ice cold soul and a jones for revenge. His path is long and violent, and the entire journey so far is now yours to witness

First, the legendary series – Afro Samurai. As a kid, he saw his father slaughtered. Now a man, Afro walks to the mountain where destiny waits on high. The perpetrators must atone, and they’re gonna get what they deserve. Nothing Personal – It’s Just Revenge.

The saga continues in the Emmy-Award winning Afro Samurai: Resurrection. Afro is forced back into the game by a beautiful and deadly woman from his past. She won’t quit until Afro is schooled in the brutal lessons he dealt those who stood in his way. One Brother. One Path. One Thousand Deaths.

5.0 out of 5 stars Afro Samurai: Complete Murder Sessions July 14, 2010

I've noticed lately that a lot of these reviews have been on the series itself. Let me provide you with a review on the product. Quite simply, it's top notch. The quality is amazing, far better than what I expected or remembered from the TV broadcast. The set contains two thin DVD cases, each with it's own artwork. Each case contains two discs. The original series, Afro Samurai-the five episode set, are contained on the first disc in the first case. Unlike previous director's cuts, they are separate episodes. The second disc contains the series' special features. Likewise, Resurrection is contained on the third disc in the second case, and it's bonus features are contained on the fourth disc. The actual case that houses both of the thinner cases is slightly larger than a normal DVD case and opens like a book-it doesn't snap shut like a standard DVD case. At the prices these sellers are offering, this is a steal, just for the neat looking case alone :) I highly recommend this product to anyone seeking to own this series. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say? It won an award afterall February 22, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Nice story lines, though rather generic..."You kill my father, I kill you" sorts chinese martial arts flick.
I like the twist of an "afro samurai" and the 'alternate' world they all live in where the people are mindlessly after the same things irrespective of their fighting style... race, countries, affiliation...

I wonder why that sounds familiar...
(just imagine :-) )

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool, violent, and stylized August 18, 2011
By Nick C
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
If I could sum up this show in a single sentence it would be "style over substance". At first glance that sounds like a negative, ignorant bashing of a much loved anime. It's not, in fact it's a high complement from me when I say that something has so much style, so much impressively animated fighting and so much cool that I don't even care that the story is lackluster. It's a story about one man's bloody quest of vengeance, which is fine, because it's exactly what I expected and what I payed for. If you want an anime that is serious and has more story than anything else I encourage you to look elsewhere. If you want you're looking for something that is entertaining, gory, violent, and feels like a Tarintino movie minus the plot, than you've found what you're looking for. The story isn't amazing, but the way that's it's presented, through flashback sequences, makes it more interesting. The way the show is presented and the way the fighting is done to the fitting hip-hop/rap soundtrack is great. I really liked this show, but to enjoy it like I did you have to meet these qualifications.

-You don't mind excessive blood and gore.
-You don't mind sexual content.
-You don't mind that the story isn't amazing or extremely though provoking.
-Violent semi futuristic sword fighting entertains you.

If you can meet those qualifications or the majority of them, you'll enjoy this show. If not then you've already made up your mind and are putting in your next show in the search bar.

Afro Samurai was fun to watch with amazing CG and a decent music score. AS is full of fluid action scenes and interesting character designs. On the downside, AS has a horrible dub, unnecessary characters and the plot is a little too basic. Still if you are a fan of anime with action over plot you will love Afro Samurai.

And if you're a fan of Afro Samurai, be sure to check out Afro Samurai Resurrection.

Fantastic series. Excellent acting. Amazing and deep dialogue. Poetic. Violent, but appropriate for the story. A new favorite for my teenage son.

Quick Question about this
I'm guessing this is just going to be both season 1 and the movie in one box. I don't think anything has has been added or deleted.
