Pioneers of the "Manguebeat" style,
By
This review is from: Afrociberdelia (Audio CD)
This guys have managed to grasp the feeling of some Brazilian traditional rhythms (like samba, for instance) and combine them with electronic - TripHop-esque beats and Catchy guitar/bass riffs. Everything makes perfect sense in the end. I highly recommend this since it?s one of the most authentic bands of the last decade. Just give it a try, it's absolutely fascinating.

90"s Best Album,

This is the second album of CSNZ. Definetely is the best brazilian album released in 90's. Mixing many styles, CSNZ did a sound that's too hard to define, but very good to listen. Their influences are psyco and brazilian rhymes. They surprised the brazilians when they played some tradicional styles with modern influences (rock, rap, electronica). This album is full of it! Let's groove!

Just when you thought nothing new would come out of Brazil..,

Chico Science and his top-notch band, aided by the expert production of BID, brings something entirely new out of the pretty much stagnant brazilian music scene. Exquisite percussion, the rich rhythmic heritage of the brazilian northeast, all mixed with contemporary influences that makes this music widely universal and modern. Chico's death was a terrible loss for brazilian music, but thanks to his efforts, his comrades are keeping the Recife scene alive and kicking. Do yourself a favour and don't let this important evolutionary step in brazilian music out of your CD collection.

An incredible cd. I really don't have words to talk about it...There's nothing in the history of the music like this cd and it comes from Brazil. It's a mix with northeast brazilian rithyms, techno, jungle, drum'n bass, hip-hop, rock, etc. I have my one (thank god) you should have your.

After the great Da lama ao Caos, Chico and Nação puts Afrociberdelia in the world. Afrociberdelia got some amazing songs like cidadão do mundo, Macô and Maracatu Atômico. In fact, all the album is a nice music trip.

When Chico Science left the world, an entire generation trembled. He was an alchemist in the best sense of the word and an original innovator, able to amalgamate the best elements of quite distinct sources; he revealed new worlds and possibilities, exposing states through music that no-one else could yet feel. His image to me was since the beginning, and still is, the image of a powerful light hurricane. In sound and picture, we are reminded now of what a unique coloring he brought to sight, as Nacao Zumbi goes on with renewed vitalities and amazing new songs.I still mourn his death back in 97 as many others do: as one mourns the death of a close friend, and as one mourns all geniuses not only at an early age but at any age. His buddy Fred 04 summed up a few years later the feeling of grief that made its way through many: `the equation does not close: one day, someone will have to admit publicly that in that distant February in the twentieth century, there was an unforgivable failure in the clockwork of chaos. Something happened not as foreseen and, for the disgrace of the cosmos, the wrong guy ended up taken' ([...]). Still, as one meditates the ways of life and death now that ten years have slipped, one feels not as sad about Chico's departure as glad and inspired about his figure. There is nothing in his apparently brief thirty-something years that makes them different from one hundred years. He actually lived several hundred `years', nay uncountable eons and kalpas of experiences. So thank you, Chico, for all the great music; for showing us so many new things that we could not see by ourselves, for doing what you do and for being what you are - what you will always be. Attention, [...] reader: Afrociberdelia is perhaps the most original rock album of the entire decade - in the world. And attention, Brazilian fans: does any one remember the wonderful 1997 special "Ensaio" at TV Cultura with his interview and songs? Someone should have brought back that stuff and made it available already, it is a precious document that can't be missed.

To write about Afrociberdelia is a fool thing to do. In fact, you have to hear to understand Chico's visionary brazilian music mind. A must have!Saudade deste arteiro...

Originality is the right word!,

This CD couldn't have so appropriate name: "Afrociberdelia". "Afro" refers to drums and percussion (Africa); "Ciber", to electronic sound (cybernetics); and "Delia", to burning psychedelia. The result is a very original sound, made with quality. Unfortunately, Chico Science died in a car crash in February 1997. But his music is more alive than ever.

I got this cd about 3 days ago and it has not left my CD player. The drum beats with the trippy-hip-hoppy effects totally make this cd worthwile, even if you don't speak a lick of portuguese. It is totally original and totally fun, and the best music investment I have made in quite a while. Chico Science breaks the barriers between music genres and language on this album.
