Hace tiempo escuche a una persona decir: "que dificil es el mantener viva la llama del amor". Isable Allende logra en su libro, no solo revivir el placer por la vida, sino por los detalles que hacen que la vida tenga una verdadera razon de ser. Nada como el disfrutar de los pequenos placeres que la vida misma nos ofrece y que tenemos al alcanze de la mano. La pasion que tanto buscamos fuera de nosotros esta ahi, dentro de cada uno esperando ser rescatada del limbo al que la destinamos por el simple miedo de experimentar y ser sencillamente nosotros.

Si bien no tuve oportunidad de preparar ninguna de las recetas, me gusto mucho el libro y lo voy a tener presente como recetario para cuando tenga algo de tiempo libre. Se los recomiendo a los amantes de la cocina y del placer de comer y de amar.

Como buena Peruana siempre he tenido gran respeto y admiración por la Señora Allende , me parece realmente íncreible como puede definir con tal exactitud la descripción de las cosas. Afrodita un libro claramente lleno de afrodisíacos pero también anécdotas que pueden hacer a más de uno sonreir en el recuerdo. Gracias a Isabel Allende es que a la corta edad que tengo ha despertado en mí el placer por la lectura y el sosiego al escribir. Sería para mí un sueño digno el conocerla algún día.

Allende's book of recipies is not what some readers, like myself, might expect from the author of such good pieces of literature as The House of Spirits and The Infinite Plan (to name just two). Unlike Laura Esquivel, author of Like Water for Chocolate, Allende did not accomplished a work that put together the art of cooking and sensuality and still can be call literature, just a simple book of recipies. It can be said that part of the content of this book consists of some recycle material from previous works by Allende. However, the selection of the ilustrations and the art work is very good (and the edition certainly atractive).

Es sobresabido que nosotros los latinos o al menos una gran parte de nosotros TODO lo festejamos alrededor de la comida, y creo que en este libro se hace un honor al ejercicio de convivir en familia

No esperes encontrar la gran historia, pero si una perfecta y maravillosa narracion sobre comida e interesantes recetas

Great book! The history of aphrodisiacs and how they influence different cultures. Excelent recipes for special days and the "how to's" for a good orgie. Very well written and fun to read.

I wanted to read this book since the first time it was published in 1997 but I think I was to young to have appreciated. Now that I finished it I just can say it was a real feast for the mind and soul, it was just the best meal I ever had. Isabel Allende writes after a terrible moment in her life which was the dead of ther daughter Paula but she does it with so much passion, such zeal for life as if celebrating it together with love and lovemaking, just couldn't help but devouring the book in 3 nights. Is not only a novel (if you can call it that way) but is also a cooking book with so many exquisite recipes that you would like to try with your partner (or on your partner) at once. If you happen to speak spanish native or have a good knowledge of this language I'd recommend you to buy the spanish version to enjoy Isabel Allende at her best.

Es inevitable, no arrepentirse de las cosas de las que se arrepiente la autora.
Las recetas están bastante bien introducidas en el texto, aunque lo veo un poco forzado, no hay una unidad, son historias aisladas que a veces no pegan demasiado bien con la receta en cuestión y te quedas un poco a medias, ( en la receta y en la historia), pero es ameno y original.
A mi entender éste y los demás libros de Isabel Allende, pecan un poco de "aburguesados" y ésto no me gusta demasiado, tniendo en cuenta que pretende escribir precisamente para un público no burgués.
Tampoco me gusta la excesiva diferencia entre las ediciones existentes. La calidad del papel y de las ilustraciones es abismal, no así los precios.Que también pecan de "burgueses".

This book is basically Isabel Allende telling stories about her personal experiences with sexuality combined with fine dining intended to be afrodisiacs; she gives great recipies while she paints very quaint imagery on the origins of the food being cooked. Overall this book is a great read. I do recommend, however, to read the book in spanish as it is Isabel Allende's native language.
