3.0 out of 5 stars Various -- Afrojazzfunk Round 2 -- 8 Pure 70s Jazz, September 6, 2000
This review is from: Afrojazzfunk Round 2 (Audio CD)
Forget the "Afro" in this one -- because the compilation's more just a straight jazz funk collection! Not that that's a problem with us, though, as the set features a motherlode of great heavy jamming tracks that have a nice electric sound. Sure, a few of the bands have a slightly "ethnic" origin, but most of the material sounds like straight ahead American jazz funk -- with heavy drums, electric keyboards, rumbling bass, and choppy guitar work. Titles include "Thinkin" by Compost, "Like a Rainy Night" by Daniel Salinas, "Tschout'Se" by Pep's, "Funny Saga" by The Monstars, "Douala By Night" by JM Tim & Foty, "Takuta" by Babatunde Olatunji, and the obligatory Lafayette Afro Rock Band track, the wonderful "Hihache"!
