This CD is for real western music lovers. A sound that is reminiscent of Patsy Montana, or a female Marty Robbins.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real cowgirl sings from experience, August 3, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: After All (Audio CD)
Joni could have been a great mainstream country singer, if traditional country music were commercially viable for major labels. On this album, Joni sings honest country songs, with traditional acoustic backing. Joni wrote all the songs, sometimes jointly with others, which have been inspired by Joni's life on a ranch, and of that type of lifestyle in general.

Songs like Every cowgirls' dream, Weakness for cowboys, Cowboy wedding and Cowboy coffee give a revealing insight into cowboy culture which can only have been written by somebody who has lived through it all.

Joni proves her ability to sing more general country songs on West Texas waltz (very different from the Joe Ely song of the same title), Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes, More than your eyes can see, Keep on dreamin' and It'll happen when it's time (a song which asks about the weather for farmers).

The song Millie is inspired by a waitress that Joni remembers from her Nashville days, who always provided great service and always made customers feel welcome.

I want to sing for you is a tribute to her fans, who are surely increasing in number all the time.

Joni is in fine voice throughout on this very upbeat album. For those seeking traditional country music, it doesn't come any better than this, with or without the cowboy songs.

I had never heard of Joni Harms until a friend turned me onto her. I bought this CD and love every song on it. Her beautiful voice enhances the strength of her lyrics. She is a strong woman who is not afraid to show her vulnerability in songs like "I've Got A Weakness for Cowboys". So much of what she sings I can relate to...being her own woman, and not being afraid to live and to love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Country AND Western music, June 21, 2004

This review is from: After All (Audio CD)
This is the second of Joni's cds I've purchased (I know, Harms fans - I'm just getting started!), and I'm not at all disappointed. A strong, earnest voice, meaningful lyrics, and top-notch production share the spotlight on this highly enjoyable album. Here's an album parents can listen to with the kids without worry. In fact, hearing these stories of wholesome romance, western ways, and down-home values will do them good. Even if you're trapped in suburbia (or, heaven forbid, the big city), Joni Harms carries you away to the open country. And what a glorious trip!

Look for earlier cds on her website. I think there are 9 albums in all.
