5.0 out of 5 stars Bielski's Masterpiece, January 9, 2007
By
This review is from: After Arkadia (Hardcover)
'After Arkadia' (1991) is a deceptively simple novel. Although in essence a romance, it's also a cultural history of Russia and France in the 1910s, the years of the Russian Revolution and World War I. Bielski tells her story in clear and concise prose, allowing the reader to experience femme fatale heroine Jeanne's life first-hand without all of the detailed descriptions that bog down a lot of historical novels. The surrounding events are revealed mainly through Jeanne's acquaintances and lovers.
