Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This book provides some valuable ad vice to novice job seekers. In a very readable style, Falvey explodes lots of the myths of getting a job. The empha sis is on people-oriented skills rather than job-related skills, talents, and re sume building. The author's premise is that the "values in the world of work are much more socially oriented than academically or technically oriented." It follows, therefore, that he stresses the value of personal contacts and so cial skills, and makes a convincing case against further schooling to gain addi tional skills. This book may well be the antidote called for in a society that is becoming increasingly specialized and overeducated. Recommended for col lege career libraries. Herbert E. Sha piro, Empire State Coll., Genesee Val ley Regional Ctr., Rochester, N.Y.

This review is from: After College: The Business of Getting Jobs (Paperback)
Jack Falvey isn't an academic -- he learned thru years of real,work-world experience (and it shows!) This excellent book is a must-read for anyone entering the job market for the first time, and much of its advice will stand the test of time throughout a lifelong career. I've been recommending it for years to all of my graduating students. Ed Wohlmuth, business faculty, The Art Institute of Philadelphia
