Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Each entry in Ray’s A Family Affair series contains dark secrets, scandals, betrayals, and redemption, and this read is no exception. When Samantha Collins’ grandfather unexpectedly taps her to head up Collins Industry, she is aghast, as are some of her spurned relatives. Worse yet, her grandfather stipulates she must run it with the help of the one man she’d thought was out of her life forever, Dillon Montgomery, who still tugs on her heart despite a calamitous flameout between them 12 years earlier. Just being in the same place again with Dillon is enough to tease Samantha’s nerves and presence of mind, and she sees nothing but more heartbreak ahead. With her family’s legacy hanging in the balance, though, she somehow has to pick up the pieces and create something good out of the whole mess. Touching, earnest, and skillfully tangled with subplots and minor characters, this should appeal to the many fans of Ray’s sweet yet sweeping romantic sagas and perhaps earn her new ones. --Julie Trevelyan

This novel was a wonderful read. While reading this novel, I was
shocked to learn that Ms. Ray had left this earthly life. A wonderful
moving and inspirational love story. Dillion and Samantha finding
love after all the hurtful things happenend in their lives. Sam
had to learn to stand up for herself and Dillion learned that he
had to learn to have some trust in people and let some of the
hurtful things that happen to him stay in the past.
I truly wish that we could have been able to see FR explore
Roman and Marlene's relationship a little more. I didn't know whether
Roman was caucasian or hispanic. I would have like a little more
clarity as to whether theirs was and IR relationship. Overall, I
loved the book and will miss this author's writings. RIP Ms. Ray.

This is one of Ms. Ray's best. I loved this book the story line was perfect the characters were easy to follow. There is a twist that makes you want to read the book even faster to get to the answer of the twist. When I finished the book I thought the price is well worth it. If you are not a fan you should be. FANTASTIC!

The story plot was interesting and fun. The author wrote about everyday things; the characters and situations believable. The story was paced well and easy to pick up wherever you left off.

If you like a weak female lusting after a manly male, and an older female putting off an older male lusting after her, this is the extent of the story. The writing is amateurish at best with very poor sentence structure and there is a very predictable story line hidden amongst all the repressed sexual feelings that are the main emphasis in all 300 pages. I'm sorry I stuck with it to the end but kept hoping a story worth reading would emerge. No such luck!

Typical Francis Ray fare. Luckily, I read this after reading When Morning Comes so I found out what happened with Cade. Fans of Ms. Ray won't likely be disappointed with this one. 3 stars - get it from the library.
