Editorial Reviews

The recent release of the "Suicide Bombers" EP marked the official return of the cult Danish electronic industrial artist, Claus Larsen aka Leaether Strip. It was in the early 90s when he rapidly established his position on the alternative music map, achieving high sales in both the European and American electro-industrial scenes. While drawing on the powerful angst seen in other electro acts such as Front 242, Skinny Puppy or even NIN, Leaether Strip rapidly earned the reputation of carrying a deeper message and meaning through his very personal, intense, and even politically charged songs.

In January, 2006, Leaether Strip will celebrate its eighteen years of existence. Claus Larsen chose that very special month to share with you his new and highly anticipated aptly titled album, titled After The Devastation. Although five years of silence almost killed him, it is by putting his pain into music again, that Claus has managed to resurface from a deep depression to emerge; feeling stronger and more confident than ever before. Having been mentally blocked, his inspiration flow was now so intense in recent months that the new album could be nothing less than a double CD! By far, this is his most personal and heartfelt album ever. After The Devastation alternates from the very intimate to the political. Both musically and vocally, Leaether Strip continues its established sound while expanding in more diverse ways than before.

Leaether Strip has kept it’s promise to it’s fans and has returned, instilling more electronic mayhem and further proving once more that even though they’ve been copied by many over the years, that they always remain the real deal – indeed a true leader when it comes to dark, electro-industrial music!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the Leather Strip that I wanted, June 12, 2007
This review is from: After The Devastation (Audio CD)
I recently found Leather Strip and have really liked them until now. I hated this album. I would have to say my favorite LS album is Self-Inflicted which has a heavy, industrial feel and screaming vocals. After the Devastation felt more like pop sounding techno, with lyrics like "Daddy please love me"

Maybe it is because I only know a couple of LS albums, but I did not like this one at all. I thought it would be awesome when I bought it after hearing Self-Inflicted and their best of album and reading the other reviews on amazon. Not for me.

If you're into industrial like me...Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Slick Idiot, Ministry, Pig, RevCo, Front Line Assembly, to name a few...This album is probably not for you, but I would check out some of Leather Strip's albums from the late 90's.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was hoping for something darker., June 26, 2007

I like Leather Strip, and I don't think this album lacks in talent. However, I agree with the review below, this isn't a Leather Strip album. The music is verry popish, and in some ways it brings to mind the kind of music that they often play at gay bars. Gay disco/electro pop? Anyways, there are a few moments where I get the EBM vibe such as "happy pills", even less of the moments where I get the industrial or coldwave vibe, I mostly feel that this is is a pop album. I actually hate a few songs on this album to be quite honest. Yes, it is still dark, just not verry good. There are 2 Cd's on this album, and the production isn't terrible, and there are a handful of decent tracks. Overall, it's not a great buy, and certainly a dissapointing album for Leather Strip, considering taht Claus Larsen (LS frontman) is one of the pioneers of the terror ebm/hellectro scene. This is none of that, rather, more of a pop techno record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Claus Larsen is back!, March 28, 2007

And he's back with a double cd! Get this, it's well worth the money! All new material! Having said that, if you're not familiar with Claus Larsen/ Leaether Strip then he's one of the most talented industrial musicians you'll ever hear. After the Devastation sounds like one of his most personal albums ever. The lyrics dig into his personal life, homophobia, his childhood etc. A much different sound than his earlier material such as Solitary Confinement from years back. Not as heavy or upbeat but just as powerful and meaningful. Fans of Leaether Strip should be pleased. I'm listening to this album at this very moment. Well worth the money!
