Basically a deck of trivia cards that are all on Shakespeare,
By A Customer
This review is from: After Dinner Shakespeare (Cards)
It isn't really fair for me to rate these, since they weren't at all what I expected. There are no pictures, except for a pen and ink type depiction of the subject himself. The cards are about 3 x 5 inches and are basically in typical trivia card format (question on one side, answer on the other). If you or your family are REALLY into Shakespeare, these might be for you. If you are not, but would like to learn more about him, these again would be for you. If you have only a little interest about the author and his life, skip them

I don't know who thought up this idea which is very similar to the tradition of Bible quote cards at the table to be read while munching Captain Crunch cereal in the morning.
Calling this "After Dinner" Shakespeare and taken in the similar vein I can't imagine middle class families sitting round the fire and Dad whipping out the Shakespeare cards with a squeal of delight from the children. As it is, it makes food for thought if you venture into the series of questions provided in the set. The obvious problem is of course the lack of decorative elements that may have given the set more sale potential. This was teamed up with "After Dinner Freud". An adventure down memory lane for psychoanalytic oriented people who love to chat up Freudian theories on mental health. Of these, I know no one interested in either catagory. This "Trivial Pursuit" is as dead as the humanities in most college course selections. This is not to say that the product is bad or of little value. They are very good in fact. The trouble is you will find it to be more of a game of solitaire than for use as a social entertainment. |
