A timely response to a disturbing trend., December 10, 2005
This review is from: After Eden: Understanding Creation, the Curse, and the Cross (Paperback)
Today, biblical authority may be under its greatest attack in centuries. This book is a reflection of what is happening and it's potential danger to the Christian faith. More people in leadership positions are using biblical language to seductively sell the anti-biblical naturalistic theories of unrepentant scientists who have contempt for the Bible. The reason this is being done is obvious. Christians are caving in to peer pressure and have lost their trust in the Bible. As a result, certain verses of scripture are being taken from the lay person and given to 'experts' with a scientific background. Only they are allowed to decide what these verses mean based on what scientific consensus says about history. No longer are common sense and sound hermeneutical principles allowed to decide the meaning of words.
This of course is totally foreign to the Bible. Jesus did not pick just elite members of society to be his leaders to deliver his message to the world. Jesus used fisherman and tax collectors who had the skills to test doctrine with scripture. Every verse of the Bible is authoritative and inerrant. This is what Jesus taught, and because of this, we are able to separate true teachings from false teachings. Compromise interpretations that elevate man's so called science above clear scripture have abandoned this biblical precept. Foolishly thinking that compromising with the world will make the Gospel more attractive, they have actually undermined the very method that makes the Gospel comprehensible. Secular scientists will only accept naturalistic interpretations. That is why evolution, the big bang and billions of years are the popular theories of the day. Secular scientists also realize the Bible teaches the exact opposite and use these very theories to secularize the world.
Yet, so many Christian leaders feel the need to jump on the bandwagon, thinking this will somehow make them more respectable to the rest of the world. Secular scientists welcome such positions because it allows them to continue on without being accountable. By making the Bible fit popular theories, secular scientific speculations on areas that are no longer repeatable and testable grant these theories more authority than they deserve. One of the greatest weapons a secular scientist has to convince people of evolution and billions of years is a compromising church leader. Morris points this out citing anti-creationist Eugene Scott applauding Hugh Ross for getting Christians to `embrace more science'.
As for the critic below, yes this book is very emotional. We are not talking about sports but the very word of God. The evidence presented is verse after verse demonstrating the Bible is our revelation from God that must be used to test the teachings of church leaders. Morris does exactly this and uses the Bible to refute long age positions. The best evidence to refute long age positions is the Bible itself. There is no hint of evolution or long ages anywhere in the Bible despite over two centuries of church leaders desperately searching. This is one of the best Biblical critiques of the currently popular attacks on Biblical authority written for the laymen. A must read!

THE EVOLUTION OF an Old earth Creationist, June 28, 2008
I haven't finished the book yet. However I realize after reading just the first five chapters that either the word of God is true "AS IT IS WRITTEN!" or it's not. I believed in the old earth teaching because I thought "science" had shown the world to be such. I never would have seen that just from reading my bible. in old english or the Hebrew. I know both pretty well.
This book taught me a hard lesson in trusting God at his word and not my own interpretation.
I see now that even if science could show some evidence of great age (and of course they haven't) THAT IS NOT THE CLEAR TEACHINIG of scripture. For example how do you interpret Ex 20:11 "for in 6 days God created the heaven the earth the sea and all that in them is" what does that NOT include?? Sounds like every thing to me. This is in the middle of the 10 commandments... talk about an important document to God. You would think that if we "misunderstood Genesis 1 we could trust the 10 commandments.
Can we not trust the 10 commandments. Maybe God didn't mean thou shalt not kill??, or steal? I can't believe I ever thought the bible said 1000's or millions of years.
How about "evening and morning" repeated over and over in Genesis chapter one.
HEY LISTEN!! If you can't just read the bible and trust what you read YOU CAN"T TRUST IT AT ALL!!! You shouldn't need a "Bible Guru" to explain it to you just because there is some things that go against evolutionary science.
Can we trust the creator enough believe he meant to say what he said? Or can we reinterpret the scripture because we don't agree with what is written??
THANK YOU DR HENRY MORRIS FOR CHANGING MY LIFE! My Faith in the word of God has gone to another level! I thought I was on fire before but you really kicked it into high Gear.

Get out your pencil and paper because you'll want to take notes as Dr. Morris unfolds the story of God's creation of man and woman, the story that tells what life was like after they disobeyed God and had to leave the Garden of Eden.
