I do not own the re-issue version of this CD I have the original Victory Records version (the only difference is a slight variation in the cover art and the bonus track on the wind-up release) this is a great punk/emo/hardcore release. Boy Sets Fire play intense music; each song has powerful emotions and driving personal politics. The title and opening track "After the Eulogy" is probably the the most fierce opening song I have ever heard. And the next song "Rookie" is almost pop-punk (take that hardcore elite!). Mix in a emo song like "My Life in the Knife Trade" and you got an album every punk/hardcore/emo kid should love; oh yeah if all those hardcore kids out there could quit being so pretentious about things like who is releasing the album and just listen to the music (I know you were listening Korn just two months ago)... oh yeah and remeber that band Earth Crisis they were on the major label roadrunner, along with Shelter, and lets not forget Sick of it All's stint on a major label.

5.0 out of 5 stars drowning pool rules??!!, October 9, 2001
This review is from: After the Eulogy (Audio CD)
Hardcore poseur types, and you say you like drowning pool.. enough said. Anyway, this album is awesome! When I first heard this album, it was after I downloaded the mp3s. I immediately went out and bought the cd at Record Town. Yeah, so I paid like $20, and still thought it was worth it. I still do. Mellow parts, heavy as brass balls parts. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, May 25, 2002

This is Boy Sets Fire's second full-length album and they have matured greatly since their first. Allmusic Guide feared that "The Day the Sun Went Out" would be their best, but they have actually outdone themselves. There are NO bad tracks on this album, my least favorite is the poppish "When Rhetoric Dies," but to have no bad tracks is an amazing feat for a band these days. The styles of their music vary a lot as well. It is hard to place BSF, but usually they are called EmoCore. Their songs go straight from hardcore ("After the Eulogy") to softer, emo songs ("My Life in the Knife Trade") to stuff that could sit next to Pantera ("The Force Majeure"). It is a great album and they switch style seemlessly. Get it today!

After the Eulogy is a great album and Boy Sets Fire is a great band. Some of the songs in this album are very hard core (After the Eulogy) and some of them are alot softer (My life in the knife trade) and Boy Sets Fire are very good at singing both of these types of music. I strongly encourage you to give this band a try because this album and all there other albums are very good. I also encourage you to buy their albums from a store and support the band rather then just burning it because this band is independent and they chose to remain in underground music so they will need your help and support.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Albums Ever!!!!!!!!!!1, September 7, 2004

This review is from: After the Eulogy (Audio CD)
I love this album so much. I've had it for a while now, but I decided that I had to review it. This album is so good. It never gets old. It has great replay value. Also the vocals are awsome. I love the singers voice and the way they mix in the screaming is perfect. Many people don't like this album because they claim it's not hardcore. Well, it's not supposed to be. People are too stuck on labels. Also some people are turned off by the politics of the band, but don't be. The music is awsome no matter what your political views are. Everyone should be required to own this album because it is so awsome.
Buy it now. It's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD I've heard in years, December 17, 2001
This review is from: After the Eulogy (Audio CD)
This CD single-handedly restored my faith in men to make good music. Every song carries a strong emotional impact, with excellent musicianmanship to back it up. The lyrics astound me. They are filled with passion, pain, and agony. (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs by the BEST EMOCORE band of all time, June 12, 2003
This review is from: After the Eulogy (Audio CD)
If you are a big fan of anything EmoCore, Straight Edge, or anything of that nature. This CD is any AMAZING purchase. It has no bad tracks. Its all around a pretty perfect CD, and CDs like that are hard to come by anymore.
This CD unlike "In Chrysalis" and other BSF EPs has songs that sound somewhat popish, but they still have a BSF edge to them and are still good. "My Life in the Knife Trade" is a perfect example of this. Its somewhat popish, but still one of my favorite songs on the CD. I cant say much more about this CD, except its most certainly worth a listen, because once you listen to it once you wont stop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emocore At It's Best, December 17, 2001

Boy Sets Fire is one of the few bands to wear the elite title emocore as their genre of music. The lead singer's voice can vary from a sweet harmonious emotional voice to that of any other hardcore singer. The song Rookie is a good example of this diversity. Every song is catchy in its own way, and if you are new to Boy Sets Fire this is a good album to start off with, if you are a seasoned bsf fan, you better not miss this one! Ignore the comments about the band being a bunch of sellouts, their music is still awesome to this day!

Awesome CD if your open minded to marxism. You sort of have to believe in socialism to like this record, as it is meant to get the blood curdling. If you listen to everything your high school government teacher taught you, you'll probably hate it. As far as musical talent, these guys are high on my list of favorite bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars BSF: you are the Gods of rock, January 9, 2006
This review is from: After the Eulogy (Audio CD)
This is one of their best albums; right up there with Tomorrow Come Today. A great mix of of hard and soft singing all bond togeather with the rich, intrecit mealody that is unique to BSF. For all of you idiots how think that they are sellouts, you obviously are poor andhave no idea how to make money. Bands have to go with a lable and public because then being in a band becomes economicly feasible and their music and message can get to more people. If they hadn't become 'sellouts', I would have never heard of them. They are without a doubt, the best politically oriented band to date.
