5.0 out of 5 stars Great Old Skool Synthpop
I got this album after hearing a remix on "Electricity" ( A cool CD with a lot of new synthpop- not a bad song on it) of one of their songs and I kept reading about them everywhere it seems. After The Fire sounds like it was made about 1984- it is not the "real" old skool of 1981, but close. The production is much fuller and busier than simple synthpop...

3.0 out of 5 stars <Vintage Style>
I bought this because of an Anything Box comparison. Although I don't think they are much like A-Box, their retro style sound, mostly driven by analog synths, is a cool flashback. Ganymede (which is the name of Jupiter's third largest moon) remind me of Depeche Mode a la Speak and Spell or Yaz. The sequencing and choice of effects are pretty dope on their debut and the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Old Skool Synthpop, January 19, 2001

I got this album after hearing a remix on "Electricity" ( A cool CD with a lot of new synthpop- not a bad song on it) of one of their songs and I kept reading about them everywhere it seems. After The Fire sounds like it was made about 1984- it is not the "real" old skool of 1981, but close. The production is much fuller and busier than simple synthpop like say early OMD. All of the songs are really well thought out and well produced, none of this do the same song 10 times thing with these guys. I would rank this in my top ten for 2000 with out a doubt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Debut, Great Music!!, June 5, 2001

I haven't heard a debut album this good in ages. I first heard about Ganymede on the Ultravox mailing list, and being a fan of the old school synth I decided to check them out. What immediately impressed me was the use of great synth melodies along with some really intelligent lyrics. The songs range from the fast and furious "Clever Girl" to the mellow and outstanding "Modern Lies". I didn't think people cared enough to still make great music like this so let's hope Ganymede are here to stay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great synthpop - Real throwback to the 80s, December 25, 2000

I didn't know what to think when I first bought this album. At first I thought it would be just another weak Pet Shop Boys imitation, but I was actually blown away. If I didn't know that this album was made in 1999, I would seriously think it was from the 1980s. It sounds that genuine!

If you are into synthpop, or 80s music, or just want to listen to something catchy, I really recommend this album. It's great!

The sequencing and choice of effects are pretty dope on their debut and the mystery voice is the bomb. If you like 80's synth music, this duo from California should blast you off!

Some of my favorites are: "Lady Of The Night"/"You're My Passion"/"After The Fall"/"You Look Like Someone I Know" (my favorite)/"Through The Darkest Night"/"Modern Lies."

2.0 out of 5 stars intelligent lyrics?, March 29, 2006

I was excited to listen to this album and almost laughed out loud at the chorus to the first song which goes something like this:

"You need a lady of the night, ... , cause she'll make it alright".

Perhaps I misunderstand what the song is about but that's just lame.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wished it was a poor PSB rip-off, October 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: After The Fall (Audio CD)
I bought this and Euromantique on the basis of an Amazon recommendation for PSB's Release album. To be honest I was just hungry for something new, and more like the PSB of old so I thought I'd take my chances. I haven't heard Euromantique, but if this is anything to go by I probably wont even take it out of the selophane wrapping. Even by old (Parlophone) PSB standards it lacks production values. Yes, the tracks have some good hooks and there is "essence de PSB" in there, but it harks back to the synthpop days prior to PSB's which I was only a minor fan of ...and this fails to hit their mark in most cases too.

However, I spot potential, and hopefully I will get the courage to listen to Euromantique, and if the boys got themselves a good producer that could work the same magic as for the PSB's I see no reason why they couldn't be the PSB's for the new millennium.
