Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Rubinstein, a Polish Jew, is the author of The Survivor in Us All: Four Young Sisters in the Holocaust (1962), which told how Rubinstein and her three sisters survived years of torture, starvation, and hard labor in Auschwitz and described their miraculous escape from the Nazis during a death march in April 1945. Rubinstein now continues the story of the four sisters. She was given a job as an interpreter by the U.S. Army in Czechoslovakia (she spoke six languages), then worked for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Germany. She married a doctor and eventually emigrated to the U.S., along with her three sisters. Rubinstein writes of her painful memories--her parents and brother died in the concentration camps--and of her bitter realization that the Jews were forbidden to return to Poland. It's a courageous story of life after Auschwitz, adjusting to freedom, and keeping faith in God in an indifferent world. George Cohen
