Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

These books, from 1979 and 1975, respectively, are often described as a Puerto Rican Godfather, as they follow the rise and fall of Carlito Brigante from street punk to mob boss. The volumes were combined in director Brian DePalma's feature film Carlito's Way, starring Al Pacino.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent novel., August 17, 2002

This review is from: After Hours (Film Ink) (Paperback)
I do not possess the means to properly express what I feel about this novel. I am a huge fan of the De Palma film adaptation and I found that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The filme and book are different enough from each other (for the obvious reason that it is more often than not quite difficult to literally translate from one medium to another and maintain quality narrative). I found the two to complement each other well. Like two views of one story. The writing is excellent.

I would highly recommend this book, and "Carlito's Way" to others.
