This CD is one of about 5 CDs that I listen to very frequently. Firstly, because I play jazz guitar and I love to her Pass play with absolute purity on each solo. Posthumously, Pass plays superbly and the CD is laid out very well. Starting with "There Will Never Be Another You" sure sets the stage.
The CD captures Previn and Pass [literally] playing off each other's solos and one quickly discerns that there was much fun going on when these three jazz masters recorded it! Per usual, Ray Brown's freshness shined through and his remarkable sense of snagging the beat most creatively, enabled them to play without a drummer.
Previn is known both as a classical player and jazz player. This CD evidences a man with almost surreal skill and aptitude while playing solos and too, playing sweet chordal progessions during Brown and Pass' solos!
Get this CD and listen to it a few times. You will have listened to it 300 times by year's end! Awesmome summarily sums it up! Buy it!
Respectfully, Brian G. Jett

For those looking to start a Jazz collection, this is hidden treasure. The album keeps a constant late-night mood throughout and the technical wizardry of Previn and Pass reinforces the quiet feel with some incredibly interesting and enjoyable music. The album ends wonderfully with "One for Bunz", so good that it makes me start the album over. Do yourself a favor and pick it up

Andre Previn, Joe Pass, and Ray Brown, three of the true giants of jazz and each a major solo artist, combine their talents on this recording session in milestone effort. The trio can swing without percussion and the combination seems to give them more leeway in rubato passages. I was empressed with the unselfishness and supportiveness of the three. Each solo to great effect but then are willing to play the accompianment role to perfection. I especially liked the Cotton Tail and What Am I Here For tracks. As a fan of all three artists I was overjoyed by this addition to my collection.

This trio can really swing! Propelled by one of the greatest bass players the jazz world has known, and a guitarist of guitarists, the late Messrs. Ray Brown and Joe Pass, André Previn is a classical pianist that really swings in this "after hours" setting. The drumless trio exhibits a full, rich tapestry of harmonic empathy that keeps you hooked up until the last note is played. This is Jazz with a capital J, and Mr. Previn's phrasings reinforce his mastery of the piano in a varied jazz repertoire. My five stars go to this trio that unfortunately cannot be replicated. Highly recommended.

Ray Brown spans the generations of my life with jazz. As Diana Krall observed, "I'm just glad you're here Ray Brown". Here is Previn without drums hence a different approach and concept than the My Fair Lady compilation. This is one of the great offerings of "Laura" and its haunting melody. Basically the jazz offerings from Previn are treasures.

I'm not much of a jazz aficionado, but Previn has turned out some great recordings and this certainly ranks in the upper echelon. I'm not going to try to analyze it to death - I always like hearing this CD and everybody for whom I've played it has agreed. 6 stars. The sixth is to negate the one four star rating.

I have a small jazz collection that gets shuffled through nightly. Most of the time, however, my wife won't turn on the music until I come home and get it done. Since picking up "After Hours..." I've come home on several nights to discover that nightly jazz had begun. She loves this recording and so do I.

"After Hours" with Andre Previn, Ray Brown and Joe Pass is one of the best jazz CD's I have heard in a long time. It is entirely standards and Previn is sensational on piano. It was recorded almost with little rehearsal and thus is very spontaneous. Of course Brown and Pass are equal to Previn.

Because Previn is so versatile he is often overlooked as a great jazz pianist. This CD disproves any questions one may have about his remarkable ability.
