5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
He's done it AGAIN. He definitely turns up the funk notch on this one. Where his previous releases have been smooth and mellow except for a few cuts, this one is all out sensuality and seduction. Never actually saying what it is that's driving his passions, leaving it to the listener's interpretation. Pure genius! The collaborations with Van Hunt (another star in his...

3.0 out of 5 stars Thankful for da nu musik, but still annoyed...
Two of the cuts on this disc appeared on movie soundtracks a couple of years before this record was released(Two Can Play that Game and Brown Sugar). Bear in mind that RP's last disc, Love in Stereo, was released in 1999. 6 years between projects. Why I'm not sure, but let me take a wild guess. Once again, industry bigwigs continue stunting the musical growth of both the...

Never actually saying what it is that's driving his passions, leaving it to the listener's interpretation. Pure genius! The collaborations with Van Hunt (another star in his own right) are smoky and seductive, adding yet another layer to Rahsaan's eclectic repertoire of sounds. This is NOT a collection of ballads, but just as effective in setting the perfect After Hours mood. Highly recommended and appreciated by this listener.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delicious bite of PURE SOUL..., August 2, 2005
This review is from: After Hours (Audio CD)
Since the release of his self-titled debut in 1997, singer Rahsaan Patterson has managed to attract legions of loyal fans around the world with his rousing, soulful voice, yet hasn't yet found much mainstream success. Although many fans may enjoy following a huge talent who still manages to be somewhat underground, the rest of us are left scratching our heads as to why this vocal powerhouse with every marketable quality a record label would require on their "neo soul" artist roster is not selling millions of records. Great voice? Check. Great music? Check. Great live performer? Check. Whatever the reason, it seems only a matter of time before Patterson's "under the radar" hype goes from small venues from Philly to London to the airwaves of every radio station with an R&B format.

Patterson's third CD, After Hours may just be the vehicle to send him into the Urban AC stratosphere among both the 30 plus and minus crowds. And while much has been written about Patterson's likeness to Stevie Wonder, Chaka Kahn, and other soul legends, there's something completely modern about Patterson's music. There's nothing redundant or throw back about his music or his voice. With a sound that can only be described as pure soul, he's got the type of voice you can feel in your chest.

After Hours is a funky, melodic collection of soul grooves. Patterson's high-octave vocals and ability to express more emotion than most male R&B singers, prove that he's back, and better than ever. The record's first single, the Mike City-produced "Forever Yours," is another one of Patterson's intimate, mid-tempo masterpieces. Other highlights include the catchy, feel good "The One for Me, the funky, guitar-driven "I Always Find Myself," and the flawless, uplifting "April's Kiss."
The collection of songs on After Hours is universally satisfying, as Patterson seamlessly moves from midtempo to uptempo to ballad lacing every track with his soaring, heartfelt vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this CD, May 24, 2005
This review is from: After Hours (Audio CD)
First, let me apolgize for any typos I may make in my review. I am upset. I have been a faithful Rahsaan Patterson fan since 1997!! I love his music, his voice, and his message. It upsets me that the music industry keep overlooking this talented singer!!! The CD stays in constant rotation in my CD Player whether I am in the car or at work.

Jet magazine wrote two lines about him in last week's issue stating that he is an artist to watch!! Well, they are a couple of years late.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jet Magazine's Top Talent of 2005, July 6, 2005
This review is from: After Hours (Audio CD)
I recently saw Rahsaan Patterson perform as the opening act for Kem and Fantasia... And like before, he leaves me speechless... I am forever a fan... Everyone should have a Rahsaan Patterson CD in their CD collection... After Hours is his best yet... And there is no doubt in my mind there is more to come from this pure voice... Jet Magazine (March 2005 issue) recently listed him among the top artists to watch in 2005 and with singles like Forever Yours, Burnin, and So Hot... Their are right on target! Like milk...Got Rahsaan?

5.0 out of 5 stars "After Hours" as essential as life support !!, May 9, 2005
This review is from: After Hours (Audio CD)
If you were ever in doubt(and i don't know why?),Rahsaan Patterson clearly sits on the throne as "The Prince of Soul" with his newest cd "After Hours". It has it all, funky dance tracks, sexy mid-tempos and heart-felt ballads. The mood is just as it states..........."After Hours".
Rahsaan Patterson has his own style and sound that is often replicated, but never duplicated. The phrasing and lyrics are brilliant, clearly demonstrating why he is highly respected among his peers in the music industry and his talent recruited for musical collaborations across all genres.
I tried to satisfy my thirst while waiting for Rahsaan Patterson's return by keeping his first two cd's "Rahsaan Patterson" and "Love In Stereo" in rotation. I can honestly say with the wonderful surprises on "After Hours" my thirst for more has only gotten deeper!!
If you are looking for music that has not lost it's integrity, this is a must have cd!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars No One is Doing It Better, February 22, 2005
By
This review is from: After Hours (Audio CD)
The great thing about an artist nto getting the recognition he/she deserves is that everytime you here them, it seems like a breath of fresh air. Such is the case with Rahsaan Patterson, cleary a far more skilled singer than any man on the pop/R&B forefront these days (Where are you, Bilal?). Although he has blessed other artists with some of his compositions, he has never really gotten the mainstream attention that they all did.
However, it says a lot about an artistwhen they can wait four years to release an album and still have a devout following. Rahsaan doesn't disappoint, either. From the outset fo the album with "You're the one for me", Rahsaan lets us know this is goign to be the most relaxed, assured body of work he's presented thus far. Back to that "voice": NO ONE GETS INSIDE THE GROOVE OF A SONG LIKE RAHSAAN! He allows his voice to become another instrument in the song; never overpowering nor falling below the grooves laid down by Van Hunt throughout the majority of the disc.
Rahsaan, don't make us wait next time! Your fan's are patient adn appreciative, but we need more from you!
