Well, I've read all of John's books, and this one was the least interesting, primarily because it contains almost nothing new. John indicates in his introduction that he considers this book to be "One Last Time, Part II," and indeed it reads more like a continuation of "One Last Time" than it does anything else. I've watched the show "Crossing Over" many times, and still have questions about "the other side" that I thought John was going to attempt to answer in this book, since it is subtitled "Answers from the Other Side." I didn't feel like any answers were provided, but rather the information contained in John's other books was just reiterated through more readings and seminars. The truly redeeming part of this book is the last chapter, "Papa, can you hear me?" John's father died while he was writing this book, so John was finally able to discuss (which he had never done previously) his estranged relationship with his father and how even a medium has to deal with (or choose not to deal with) family conflict and disappointment. This chapter can be helpful and enlightening to those people who don't resolve complex issues with "loved ones" before they cross over, and really enhanced my picture of who John is personally. The book is a good read, but I don't feel it stands out in the same way that "Crossing Over" and "One Last Time" did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting faith in After Life, October 12, 2003

I have read each and every review on this book and took everyone's words into consideration. I just finished the book myself and have to say I truly enjoyed it. Some of the reviews on this site attack Mr. Edward as a medium and as a person and it is clear that those reviews are by people who have not picked up the book (although they claim to have read the book in one sitting). This book took me through the process and helped me have a little more faith in people, life and the after life. After Life has something for everyone from the reading with Aaliyah's mother (which is an amazing chapter in my opinion as I was and still am a huge Aaliyah fan) to personal stories of Mr. Edward's family. I have been to seminars, watched the show, seen t.v. specials, gone to his offical website and read articles about Mr. Edward and his work but nothing brings you closer to his gift then this book! Everyone has an opinion and the right to voice it but my advise to those who sit here and bash Mr. Edward and his line of work...DON'T HOLD SUCH STRONG OPINIONS ABOUT THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! Everyone in this world should be able to put thier faith into something or someone and after reading AFTER LIFE I know where my faith is placed. Love Mr. Edward or hate him, After Life is a wonderful book and can help anyone through the healing process...all you need is a little faith and an open mind.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nope...not enough meat or potatoes, January 22, 2004
I like John Edward, and watch his TV show, which is fascinating. I liked his second book - crossing over. But this book just goes on and on with the same, and no new information. I just read a book by Tiffany Snow that gives exercises on how to see ghosts, stories about helping with unfinished business, and also stuff on the "bump in the night" kinds of ghosts. I liked hers better. John never talks about the other kinds of invisible forces there are out there - and I needed to know that too. Not all ghosts are dead people trying to say they love us. Maybe its the folks NOT on TV that are the cutting edge, I don't know. But, what I do know is that I'm going to a book store next time and thumbing through his next book before I buy it. If it's more of hte same, I'm writing him off.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Edward Does It Again!, September 1, 2003
By
C. M. O'Hara "JE TalkFriend" (Clinton, WA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In this, John's latest book, he again "converses" with his reader as if he were a good friend just having an after dinner conversation. His style is honest, warm and friendly...always with a good dose of (New York) humor. Always true to the "process," John explains his work, his experiences and the messages to others from the other side. Following him "on the road," he explains how the messages from the other side are the same, yet individual, to each person...no matter where they live or what language they speak. And to further add to the reader's sense of not being alone in their own feelings and experiences, John talks openly about his own personal life.

If you believe in the "process," you'll finish the book (all too soon) and feel uplifted and enriched for the opportunity to share the spiritualism, love, honesty and teaching that John so freely shares with anyone wanting to hear his message. If you are a skeptic, you may still question, but you'll still ask yourself, "but, what if?" A cynic? You still won't find anything to discredit John, his work, and the process he shares.

Thank you, again, John for opening so much of your life, experiences and beliefs with so many, at a time when it is greatly needed and increasingly sought after.

Once again, will look forward to your next book in 2004!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting theories, September 15, 2003
By A Customer
I found the book a quick and easy read. Nothing profound. What I came away with was his interesting proposition that not only are we becomming more and more aware of the Other Side but we are accepting communication with it. What we once thought of as remarkable is becoming unremarkable. Perhaps this mind set will enable us to re-think death (or our fear of it). A good book. It got me thinking about and then talking to my best friend who passed over three years ago. It will be interesting to see if she hears and answers....

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a Fake, September 27, 2003
By
John Edward is not a fake! The amazon site is not supposed to be a bashing of the authors, but rather a site for critiquing books. I hope in the future, people will stick to this idea.

Re:After Life the book: John Edward presents a wonderful book with many intersting insights written clearly and concisely. He is a gifted writer who is able to convey his ideas to all the readers in a manner that is simple yet detailed. I highly recommmend this book and hope that others will open their eyes to the insights of John Edward.

As an aside: John Edward readily admits that his name is John Edward McGee and that he chose not to use his father's last name when he became famous. His life is an open book, and I can attest to his abilities from a live reading I witnessed. There were no tricks or editing tools for the live reading. The details he gives are astounding and very truthful. He is someone we can all learn from, whether we believe in his abilities or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Gifted, September 25, 2003
In 'After Life', we see the profound insights of a truly gifted author. Every word is charged with energy and beauty. Mr Edward has the unique ability to demystify esoteric concepts without diminishing their truth. A life-long learner and teacher, the author's clarity of vision commands respect. His 'journey' was recently revealed in a spellbinding interview with Jay Leno, during which Mr Edward epitomized his philosophy in this beautifully simple sentence: "Jay, I live inside my head, which explains why I'm always behind with the rent." And to the sceptics who cynically contend that talking with the dead is arrant nonsense, let me introduce you to the accountants over at Paramount. You WILL believe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Left me scratching my head????, March 1, 2004
By A Customer
This is my second attempt at reading a John Edward book, and honestly it left me scratching my head. I will give him three stars for attempting writing, but the book rambled at times, and had no solid foundation.

I have recently had the pleasure of reading a book called, "The Book of Thomas," by Gabreael and Daniel Aber that answered a lot of the questions that this book danced around, and then some.

In this book the primary guide revealed himself to be Thomas Bateman, a pioneer in the field of modern archeology. According to Aber, "For the first time ever, a spirit guide not only gives his full name, but provides verifiable information about his last incarnation." Bateman refers to himself as "The Great Communicator" and he proves the name to be true.

Some of the topics this book touched were DNA, suicide, murder, abortion, birth and death of the soul, Heaven and Hell as well as many other controversial subjects. Each revelation is presented in a clear and understandable format -- no clouding of the messages one comes to expect from channeled information. It did not leave me scratching my head.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Revealing, September 4, 2003
By
"mks337" (Cincinnati Ohio) - See all my reviews
Written with the same heart as One Last Time, After Life seems much like a continuation as we accompany John on the journey begun years ago. Highlighting John's first time connecting outside the U.S. (Australia), the arrival of son Justin, and the passing of his own father, the reader feels a deep affinity for everyone involved. As in One Last Time, the connections John is able to make between this world and next are in the spotlight, reminding us once again that love is eternal. Whether a first time reader, or a return visitor to the world of John Edward, After Life does not disappoint, although you may find yourself wishing for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars He's human, too!, September 10, 2003
By A Customer
I loved this book! It was great to read that John, just like his clients, looks for "validation" from the Other Side, too...as a son who misses his mother and gets emotional about it and not just as a psychic. This was his warmest and his most intimate book so far and it was cool to hear him open up about his life and to see how all the readings with his friends happen. I felt like I was with him on his trip to Australia and Houston. I just thought this book was so positive and energetic. When I finished it, I just felt so good and felt like the people I miss who have "crossed over" are really with me. You made me smile through my tears! Thanks John!
