Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Veteran Medeiros (Yours Until Dawn) deftly melds romance and vampire lore in this thoroughly readable Regency. Orphaned gentlewoman Caroline Cabot struggles to care for her two younger siblings and make the ends of their scanty inheritance meet. When she discovers that her sister Vivienne is being courted by a reputed vampire, she heads for London to intervene. Her arrival only complicates matters: sexual sparks fly between Caroline and her sister's suitor, aristocratic mystery man Adrian Kane, while baby sister Portia becomes smitten with Kane's Byronic younger brother, Julian. When the three sisters follow Adrian and Julian to their ancestral manor, Caroline's sleuthing reveals more than one surprise. Though the book's fundamentally down-to-earth mein may disappoint readers looking for macabre thrills, Medeiros's sunny playfulness cuts the gloom of vampire convention. The attraction between Caroline and Adrian rings true throughout and the unresolved romance between Portia and Julian promises readers more time with these appealing characters in the future.

The very talented Ms. Medeiros has taken a turn from her tried and true formula romances and has entered into the ever growing realm of supernatural love stories. Vampires are the beasts of choice in "After Midnight", and our author doesn't disappoint. Where as many of these types of stories take place in a contemporary setting, Ms. Medeiros has successfully told a tale featuring these undead creatures of the night in Nineteenth century England. That alone is worth the read.

Secrets aren't truly revealed until well into the second half of the book. Often, plots and the twists of so many stories can be predicted from page one, however this tale allows for the reader to do some fancy guess work and adds to the suspense and fun.

The romance seemed to take a back burner position to the plotline, which, in my opinion, didn't detract form the story. The characters were likeable. Our hero, Adrian, was intruiging. His brother Julian, even more so. Caroline, the heroine, was a bit run of the mill as was her sister Vivienne. Portia, the baby of the family, was truly a gem and was the most interesting of the lot. Apparently, her and Julian's story is next in this series.

All in all, a successful foray into this popular realm of fantasy-supernatural-romance. Bravo, Ms. Medeiros!

I love all Teresa Medieros' books especially TOUCH OF ENCHANTMENT and the heroine in AFTER MIDNIGHT is a typical Medeiros heroine, very smart, sharp-tongued, funny, who doesn't take trouble from anyone. But Adrian Kane is really different, dark and brooding with this determination and intensity that makes him so HOT. He had me fanning myself in bed when I should have been sleeping but I couldn't becaause I started the book in the evening and couldn't put it down. Medeiros should have been writing vampires a long time ago. The only thing I don't like is she left the story hanging to be continued in the next book and I don't know when that is coming. But AFTER MIDNIGHT is definitely the best Medeiros I've read. I defintely recommend it.

Highly recommend. After Midnight had more of a plot than most romance novels. Yes it had some steamy love scenes but they did not run the story which was refreshing. I can't wait to read Julian and Portia's story in 2006. You really feel like you know the characters. I liked this book so much, read it in one day!!!

I love this book!

I have always loved Teresa's works, and I think this is one of her best, along with Touch Of Enchantment. The vampire twist is marvelous. Caroline and Adrian's romance is breathtaking... and sizzling. Perfect. As for Julian and Portia... I can't wait!

I've read all of Teresa Medeiros' novels. I can say that the last two left me a little cold. This one however, made me a fan all over again.

I am not surprised at the mixed reviews readers are giving "After Midnight". This was after all (I feel) a side step for Medeiros. It is however, captivating. So then why not 5 stars? Well, I'll tell you; I didn't exactly fall in love with Adrian. He wasn't as fleshed out as most of her Heros are. Take Colin for example in "Touch of Enchantment" He is by far my most favorite Medeiros Hero, ever. I have a feeling though that that opinion will change. I didn't completely fall for Adrain, because I fell instead for Julian. I continued to read the book because I wanted to find out more about Julian. Yes, the attraction between Caroline and Adrain is tangable but it was Julian and Portia that held my attention.

"After Midnight" is a good read because of the fact that it leaves you wanting more, and thank god that there will be more. I don't know if I can wait a year to find out what happens between Juilan and Portia. I recomend reading "After Midnight" because it can only get better from where Adrain and Caroline left off.

I normally avoid paranormal romances like the plague; however, I picked this one up because the plot description sounded good and I liked the fact that it was historical, rather than contemporary. I am so glad that I did! The story drew me right in and it was hard to put this book down between readings. The characters are compelling and the gothic feel of the story is just right. It's the first book I have read by Teresa Medeiros; she is now on my "must read" list. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book - especially to fans of gothic-style historicals.

I loved Medeiros' Nobody's Darling, Thief of Hearts and A Kiss to Remember. This one ranked right up there for me. It was a real page turner...finished it in one day. I felt the chemistry between the two main characters from the very beginning. The heroine was very funny and likeable. I also loved the hero, he was beyond sexy. I can't wait for Julian's story.

Just when you think you have Teresa Medeiros pegged for Medieval or Regency or Time Travel or Fairy Tale (all prior storylines for this multi-talented writer), she comes through with a fresh version of the vampire romance! The characters were witty and the love story solid. I can't get on board with the idea that this is her best ever since I've loved different books for different reasons. Let's just say this is her best vampire romance yet - until Julian and Portia's story!
