Desert Island Must-Have!!,
By "amarble" (Alexandria, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: After the Party (Audio CD)
I only had to hear this album's first track, "Any Little Town", once on the radio before knowing it would be a great CD. That was back in 1999. Two years later, it's still one of my favorites. I wouldn't be stranded on a desert island without it!Chris, Dan and Ryan have done great things since "After the Party", but this one has such a great mix of intelligent, meaningful and fun songs that it will be hard to top. Listen to "Any Little Town", "Too Much Pride" or "Cadillac" and I promise you'll be hooked! And if songs like "Everything Shines" or "Minnesota" don't make you smile, nothing will! This is the perfect CD for car rides, summer afternoons, or anytime! Give these boys from Boston a try, and I'm sure the Pushstars will become one of your favorites too!

An Absolute Favorite,
By Kate V (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews

I first heard the Push Stars perform at the WBCN River Rave, where their melodic music and intelligent lyrics were somewhat lost on the hard-rockin' crowd. It took me some time to actually buy the album, but once I did, I was not disappointed. From the very first track, Chris Tapper's slightly scratchy voice and their guitar and percussion combination bumped this album up to insta-favorite status. Each song is upbeat and catchy, but the sound is rich and warm, unlike some mass-produced artists out there. "After the Party" is definately the Push Stars best album. I bought Meet Me at the Fair, and found it good, but with a few wrong notes-- an album where I have to hit skip more than once. With the exception of track 2, the album is consistently good throughout, especially "Any Little Town," "Everything Shines," "Minnesota," and "Back to the Party." Strangely, though the same "standing in line for you" metaphor appears in three songs! Buy this album and see the band in concert if you can! You won't be disappointed. The songs stay meaningful and won't get tired after a few months unlike some fly-by-night pop sensations. Fans of Goo Goo Dolls, Barenaked Ladies and Belle and Sebastian will enjoy.

A cadillac of an album,

This is, in my opinion, the best of the Push Stars' albums. It's incredible. Clever but deep lyrics and Chris Trapper's soulful moan wrap themselves about your insides and squeeze. And after the party, you'll feel like you're heart's been wrung out: a little wrinkled, but whole, and a whole lot lighter.Buy it. I cannot recommend this band highly enough. Also check out their 'Opening Time'... a track called 'Over You' in particular.

I bought this cd based on a recommendation from an on-line friend and boy am I glad I did. There are so many good songs on the cd and they are all a little different. The last song on the cd "Cadillac" is worth the price of the cd alone. Highly recommended.

The Push Stars have taken their already-infectious music to a whole new level with After The Party. With amazing composition and identifyable lyrics, Chris Trapper and The Push Stars are going to make waves with this release on Capitol... The disc supercedes all my expectations for an enjoyable listening experience.

It is the best CD I own,

This CD is just the greatest. The music is a pop sound like the Goo Goo Dolls, but in a sense the Push Stars are in an even mre superoir class of their own. The lyrics by Chris Trapper are inspiring. His guitar solo on Sofkuri's Room is heart-felt. His words do not just descibe emotions they describe life. The music is perfectly arranged. Ryan and Dan ROCK!! But Chris' music just touches me in a way unlike nothing else.`

Great all-around CD,

This is one of those CDs you pop on and let play all the way through. Solid songwriting and melodies that stick around long after you listen make it very enjoyable. Sure, it can be lumped in with the Matchbox/Counting Crows/Hootie crowd, but if it's just good music, who the hell cares?

Catchy Tunes, intelligent lyrics, a must have!,

This disc has quickly become one of my favorites. I recently saw The Push Stars as the opening band for Julian Lennon in Philly. I had never heard of them before but I couldn't forget them after the show. This disc has it all. Each song is a must listen to. This band has captured pure pop/rock excellence without overdoing it. The band is tight and the songs are catchy and the lyrics are real life. Everyone can relate to this disc. If you buy one disc this year, The Push Stars "After the Party" is the one. This band is going to be big.

Pushstars,
This review is from: After the Party (Audio CD)
I found my way to the Pushstars via Great Big Sea's cover of "Everything Shines" on their live album, "Road Rage." I have to say that I like the Great Big Sea version a million times better than the original (and I may be biased because Great Big Sea is one of my favourite bands and I am more familiar with the GBS version as most people that I know are), but with that said this is a pretty solid album with no discernable stinkers on the track list. Stand-outs are "everything shines" and "cadillac."

A rare find,

This is one of a few CDs that I love to listen to from start to finish. The songs range from rockin' tunes to beautiful ballads, and everything in between. There are killer horns in "A little drunk..." that keep me wanting more. Other favs are "Any little town", "After the party" and "Sofkuri's Room". This is a great collection of stories which are well-crafted and are accompanied by wonderful music. A must buy!
