Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Catalog to a current show at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, with works drawn largely from the collections of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, this book aims to look at the artist behind the public persona. In addition to more than 50 works that span Warhol's career, this short book reproduces an essay written shortly after the artist's death on the themes of death and disaster in Warhol's early work, an interview from 1963, and a brief biography of the artist. Though the book doesn't quite manage to bring about a "sober" reevaluation of his body of work, it does offer a fine introduction to this modern master. Libraries with a range of Warholiana (e.g., David Bourdon's comprehensive Warhol, LJ 12/89) can probably skip it, but those looking for an affordable, basic introduction would do well with this retrospective.?Douglas McClemont, New York
