Book Description

August 1, 2000
A chronological overview of the funerary monuments of Egypt, beginning with the last pyramids and ending with the tombs of the Ptolemaic Periods in the Nile Delta. The architecture and decoration of the tombs, along with their contents, are discussed in detail, including the results of more recent excavation in the Valley of the Kings. The discussion is accompanied by numerous photographs of the tombs, their artwork and plans of the funerary complexes which show the development of both architectural styles and religious beliefs.

This review is from: After The Pyramids: The Valley of the Kings and Beyond (Paperback)
Fantastic book! I've already raided Jstor for all JEA articles Dodson has written. Easy read, thorough, and engaging. Will read just about anything by the author. My one issue (and it is minor) are the tomb diagrams. Would be great if he could have used the Theban Mapping Project's floor plans for the tombs (Kent Weeks, by the way, is the only other author that I would read anything they publish). The more I read of Mr. Dodson's work, the more I wish he'd have more appearances in tv docus (and it'd be perfect if he were to replace Hawass' fat butt in them).
