A Kid's Review
This review is from: After the Rain (Hardcover)
After The Rain was written by Norma Fox Mazer. Izzy, Manny, her "Daddy", Shirley, her "Ma" Helena, her best friend, and Lewis are a few of the characters with whom the main character, Rachel, has relations. The entire book takes place in a rural countryside on the eastern coast of the United States. Rachel's grandfather, Izzy, was dying. He had contracted a terminal disease called mesothelioma. This disease usually attacks the lining of the lung and does not have a cure. Unfortunately, Izzy has the disease both on the lining of and in his lungs. Rachel, after grasping the fact that her grandfather was dying, spent more time with him before his death. She walked with Izzy almost everyday and took care of him as best she could. As Rachel got to know him, she grew to love him immeasurably. When Izzy finally became so weak he has to go to the hospital, Rachel skips school for many weeks to be with him.I would recommend this book to another student. In fact I think that I would recommend this touching novel to anyone that could read! Norma Fox Mazer has adroitly woven the problems of a young teenage, about my age, into this novel. She created a story that seems so real, but is totally fiction. The events after Izzy died were described so vividly that tears came to my eyes, even though the vocabulary words used to illustrate the scene were only at a fifth to sixth grader's level. Because the story touched me so, I rated After The Rain five stars.

AWESOME FIND!,

I really loved this book. I started reading it one morning and finished it that night. I just couldn't put it down. Racheal was struggling with issues that teens deal with everyday. It takes ur grandfather, a man she dis-liked because of his harsh ways, to make her wake up. Just a simple walk everyday helped her reach inside the only skin deep harshness of the man. Her grandfather has a set time to live and Racheal helps him live each day to the fullest! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a touching story!

I've just finished reading Norma Fox's book, After The Rain and it was thrilling! The book was written as if it were the character's thoughts. Rachel is the main character and her grandpa is hospitalized. Will he live or die? If you would like to read about a fifteen year old girl who is dealing with her grandfather, who loves her dearly, then you should absolutely read After The Rain. This is an excellent book and I recommend it to anybody!

"After the Rain", was one of the first books I read by Ms. Norma Fox Wilder. Her story about Rachel coming into terms with her new life and dying grandfather was portrayed with much enthusiasm. I had a wonderful time reading, "After the Rain", and I believe you will too!!

After the rain comes sunshine,

This is yet another great NFM book. It's about a teenage girl named Rachel who had many difficult situations to deal with. First of all, she had elderly parents and brothers old enough to be her father.(her niece was 3 months younger than her!) Second of all, she had just gotten a new boyfriend, Lewis. Most importantly, her catankerous grandfather was dying. How could she handle these situations? I enjoyed this book. I found pieces of myself in Rachel. I'm an aspiring writer, and 7 months ago I lost a grandmother who was difficult to get along with, but whom I still loved. I wish I had grown closer to her before her death as Rachel did with her grandpa. "After the Rain" showed that although life and any kind of loving relationship often bring pain, in the end the experience is worthwhile.

I liked this book because it was about family and I love it when my whole family gets together!
In this book a girl named Rachel misses her family because they don't live with or near her. The only person that she sees is her grandfather. They aren't that close. Rachel has to go with her mother to the doctors with her grandfather. They find out that her grandfather has a horrible disease. Rachel feels bad and decides to get closer to her grandfather. She does and ends up walking with him every day. After a month or two Rachel's grandfather gets put into the hospital. Rachel skips school just to visit him. After a while in the hospital, he dies. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a story about pulling your family together and learning about diseases.

This review is from: After the Rain (G.K. Hall large print for young readers) (Hardcover)
My name is Reaksmey. I am 15 years old, same age as Rachel. Rachel and I are similar, very similar. UC, My parents are not that old like Rachel's parents. Somtimes, when my parents says somthing that i can't bare, i just want to blow! but then i can't! i always keep all my tempores in my head! Rachel is a very good student, and have a best friend that care for her. Rachel also wants a boyfriend, Lewis. Lewis and Rachel gets along very well, a very cute, funny, couple also. Rachel also have this Dying mean, greedy, cold-hearted grandfather to get along with. He's not easy to get through, everyone just get so happy to have one little conversation with him. 1st Rachel just want to go 4 a walk w/ her grandfather just to make her mother happy. Rachel ended up walking with her grandfather everyday after that. Slowly, very slowly, Rachel and her grandfather talks about things Rachel ever known. Rachel grandfather, Izzy, just don't like giving up, eventhough he's dying, he keeps going, trying to be tough, and strong. You'll c what happens. It's one of my most favorite books! I luv "after the rain' trust me, read it! and u'll like it! take my words for it! ;o)

I thought this book was really good. It really had real life events and gave people more to love about their family and friends. Rachel had figured out how much her grandfather ment to her a little to late. When I read this book it made me feel like I shouldn't treat my family so bad. I also like how Rachel spent more time with her grandfather when he was dying instead of thinking of herself and being with Lewis.
