5.0 out of 5 stars Avoiding the Sophomore Slump, April 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: After School Special (Audio CD)
Cats and Jammers second album, After School Special, is rare in the fact that it "works" more than their first. A.s.s. works, because, Scott Anthony is in top form as writer/singer, and a.s.s. finllay showcases his other two members, Brad Hunter and Addison Monroe, who were not present on the first album. The lyrics and melodies are simple, catchy, and all around punk. "We're Cats & Jammers" is a nice ode to themselves, but not really. . ."Lollipop Lies" is a great break-up song, mixing together the 'I don't love you's' with the 'I love you's' at the end. "The Cuddle Song" is a rare treat. It's a song that ,if, the Beatles were a punk band alive today, they probably would have recorded this song. The last song, "Run and Hide," is a powerful way to end an album. The vocals of Scott are in top form, and if I remember correctly, this is the song they usually do their PSA in, when they play live. My only complaint? It's too short. I would like it to be longer, just as I did Elastica's self titled album, but all is well in punk-land, especially if you support this band.
