4.0 out of 5 stars Brown's best outing, May 22, 2002

This review is from: After the Storm (Audio CD)
This record is a few years old, but still Norman Brown's most consistent and highly lauded effort to date. This record walked a thin line between cheese and tradition, and kept its walk straight down the middle. His playing is strong, his songs not unbearable, and his translations pretty remarkable. This album is about as cool as smooth jazz gets anymore since George Howard left us, and that's saying a lot.

If you want to see how wide-ranging and mindful contemporary and smooth jazz can be, or if you just want to hear some really strong guitar-picking, pick it up. You won't be sorry on any count, and even some of the traditionalists may find merit in the work and playing that isn't in his later albums. This is the only Brown album you HAVE to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars "STILL AMAZING", October 23, 2004

As a smooth jazz fanatic and guitar player, there is a consistent wealth of talent that keeps my ears busy and happy.
To date, "After THe Storm" remains as my favorite smooth jazz
recording. Aside from being one of greatest guitar players, the
producing and arranging on this CD is nothing short of extraordinary.THe whole CD is excellent. It is best played in the car. The tracks are infectious. While there are many smooth
jazz CD's that are superb on all levels, this one is the "epitome" of smooth jazz guitar.Having most of Brown's discography, I still find this to be his best work. I think it's hard to top such a gem as "After The Storm".

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Smooth Jazz, April 27, 2000

I have a lot of smooth jazz CD's and without a doubt this is the best one I have. I listen to it all the time and never get tired of it. On other smooth jazz CD's it seems there is always one or more song titles you don't like; but every one on this CD is outstanding. Norman is so smooth and lyrical on "After the Storm." I am eagerly awaiting his next album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good one to work too, January 12, 2001
This review is from: After the Storm (Audio CD)
Before I even got finished with Track 2 I was hooked. The haunting sound of Take me there, took me there. I was already ready to work with it. I am a romance writer and use primarily Jazz for setting scenes. Norman Brown was an easy one with work with using many of my favorite musicians together in a way that quickly put this CD on the top of MY chart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy, October 18, 2005
This review is from: After the Storm (Audio CD)
I have been a Norman Brown fan for years. This CD was one of the first Jazz cd's I bought and I've never looked back. I have listened to all his releases and I have to say that this one is my all time favorite. As I go back and listen to this CD it sounds just as good as it did the first time I listened to it. Even though he was beginning his career, I believe that it is some of the most heartfelt, soul driven guitar playing I have ever heard. Every time I listen to Norman play, its as if he was singing through the guitar. You have got to get this.

Unbelievable CD!! Some of the smoothest and most well played jazz I've ever heard! When my original CD got scratched, I bought another copy!! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right on the money, September 26, 2000

Every once in a while, someone releases a CD that has that perfect blend of smooth rhythums, bumpin' baselines, and beautiful melodic leads that all come together for an awesome display of what music is supposed to be. Norman does that from cover to cover on "After the Storm". There are some musicians that are talented and I can appreciate their talent, but the music doesn't sound good to me. Here the musicians are talented, and the music sounds good!! It's very well put together. A must have for anyone who can not only appreciate good talent, but good music as well. This CD get an enthusiastic "Thumbs Up!"

I've never heard of Norman Brown before until the radio station i listen to, played one of Norman's songs entitled, "El Dulce Sol." After hearing his amazing guitar work on that song, was good enough for me to buy this cd. His other songs like, "After the Storm" and "Acoustic Time" are also very pleasant to listen to. I give this cd two thumbs up or 5 stars...:o)

5.0 out of 5 stars after the storm is a great, great contemporary jazz album, July 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: After the Storm (Audio CD)
"After the storm" is a funky, yet dazzling display of guitar work by Norman Brown. I am surprised that this album did not get him more fame than it did. I am listening to the song "trashman" for the umpteenth time and it still sounds like the first time. With his interpretations of old Vandross,Isley brother, and Janet Jackson songs as well as original compositions Norman Brown has created one of the best albums of the decade. I recommend this album to anyone who likes contemporary jazz and great music.

this is a very very nice CD, one of Brown's best. I would own it if just for the track LYDIAN. I absolutely love the groove and feel of that track and Brown's playing is right on. The songs are good and the production is superb. If you like smooth jazz with a bit of an R&B flavor I would recommend this disc. Listen to LYDIAN, crank it up and I dare you not to tap your feet.
