This is a very important story that is told from a perspective we never get to see...the women needing care and the brave people providing the care.

This is an unflinching, deeply moving documentary that tackles an incredibly important subject with dignity and grace. The filmmakers shoot their subjects sensitively-- always leaving the faces of the clients off screen, thus allowing them both privacy and a greater level of candor during their conversations.

It's important to note that the purpose of After Tiller is to follow the lives of the few practitioners of third trimester abortions who are continuing Dr. Tiller's work after his assassination, and the struggles they face. This isn't a documentary filled with graphs and pie charts. It's not offering a thesis on why this is a necessary practice (though, the doctors themselves will do this from time to time); it's simply not that kind of documentary. It's about the people, not the practice.

The conversations with the patients are heartbreaking, and the interviews with the doctors are, by turns, illuminating, inspiring, frustrating, and ultimately humanizing-- which is the most important thing, I think.

My only qualm with the piece is that there's a handful of moments where the film will show news clips of public officials speaking out against the practice, and then cut back to the doctors looking weary and beaten. This tactic of cherry picking comments from the opposing side to create a sense of drama isn't wrong exactly (it effectively puts you in the heads and hearts of the doctors), but does feel slightly manipulative-- like the filmmakers don't entirely trust the audience to come to their own conclusions on the topic (which we will do anyway), but rather need to be lead there.

The issues discussed in the documentary blur the lines between right and wrong, moral and immoral, and life and death. Seriously after watching this movie I have such a new respect for the doctors that preform these procedures.

Whether you're pro choice or pro life this documentary will have you looking at both sides of this horrendous act. You cannot understand why someone would choose this if you do not understand the women and men faced with the decisions.

Must watch. Explains the mind games of the far right and how they are threatening our rights with their misinformation. Not at all gruesome but deeply moving. The kindness and empathy shown by these 4 Dr's brings tears to my eyes.

This documentary is focused on the physicians and their stories, not a filmed treatise on late-term abortion. It touches on the patients' stories because it is relevant to the physicians' stories as to why they provide late-term abortions. The video does offer some compelling reasons/situations in which a late-term abortion is a compassionate choice for the child and the parents. It also highlights the terror these healthcare professionals face from fanatical pro-life individuals.

I loved that this (perhaps unintentionally) showed both sides of the abortion debate. I felt so bad for the couples seeking an abortion for medical reasons (i.e. a terminally ill fetus), while the people seeking abortions for non-medical reasons (i.e. they didn't want the baby) just gave me chills. A good documentary should move you and make you think and that is exactly what this did.
