Book Description

September 8, 2002
This novel will be of interest to fans of Franz Kafka, Carlos Castaneda, and Juan Rulfo. Elements of all three writers can be found threaded into this strange and mesmerizing book. In addition, it will be of interest to readers of science fiction and horror stories. It is a surreal romp through a remote Mexican village filled with bizarre events and even stranger characters. The story defies conventional definitions and can be read on many levels. The protagonist, Baltazar Fife, is a twenty-four year old Vietnam veteran who finds himself in the company of blood thirsty gunfighters and exotic magicians in this unusual surrealistic novel, told in the best tradition of magical realistic fiction, transporting the reader through a time-warp adventure of self-realization and discovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Correction, November 22, 2005
This review is from: After the War (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
After the War is written in English, NOT Spanish as posted above. I've given it five stars because I wrote it and I believe that's the rating it deserves, obviously.

5.0 out of 5 stars After the War, February 27, 2005
This review is from: After the War (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
After the War should interest fans of Kafka, Castaneda and Rulfo. Navarro's narrative, about a young Vietnam vet adrift in Mexico, moves across the spectrum of genre, from magical realism to surrealism to science fiction and horror, with shades of Western literature: imagine The Twilight Zone setting up, hacienda-style, in the remote village of El Pueblo. Navarro is an extreme risk-taker with his fiction. WARNING: This book is not for the faint-hearted.
