From Library Journal
This large-format book is a collection of black-and-white photographs taken by members of Magnum, the association of photojournalists formed in 1947. Many Magnum members such as Car tier-Bresson, Ernst Haas, and Robert Capa are renowned in their own right, and the well-reproduced examples in this collection are generally excellent. The photographs, mostly taken in the early 1950s, show how life went on af ter World War II in the major Western European countries. They show the re covery from the world's most devastat ing war and subjects range from come dy to tragedy. Blume's long, perceptive introduction describes the world at that time and Magnum's place in it. Recom mended. Frank Davidoff, Consul tant, CBS Broadcast Group, New York
