This review is from: After the War Was over (Hardcover)
In the Spring of 1947 at a restaurant in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the photographers, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier Bresson, David Seymour, George Rodger and William Vandivert decided to form their own photo agency which they named Magnum, after the champagne bottle. Over the course of the next half century, their photo agency grew into the premiere center of photojournalism in the world.

"After the War Was Over" is a complilation of Magnum Agency photos covering life in Europe from approximatley 1945 to 1960. In rough sequential order, the book progresses from the utter and nearly total destruction of Europe in 1945 through its slow rebirth in the early 1950's, to its headlong rush to prosperity by 1960. This was a golden epoch in the history of photojournalism and the photographers from Magnum were at its forefront.

This work is large format "coffe table" type of book published 1985. Through Amazon it can be purchased for a very reasonable price. In a sense it is a greatest hits type of book. This book is filled with iconic images from the great masters of that era. This work is an intriguing sampling that will hopefully lead readers to many interesting photo collections produced by the individual Magnum photographers. This work is highly recommended.
