From Booklist

In Medlicott's latest Covington novel, the three mature friends, Grace, Amelia and Hannah, who share a home, attempt to understand the men in their lives and figure out just what they want from them. Amelia, a photographer, is preparing for an exhibit of her work in New York, a long way from their small North Carolina town. Grace's boyfriend, Bob, moves next door. He's been asking her to marry him, and she refuses, but seems to need to keep apprised of his every movement in a way she didn't need to before. Hannah has been working with Max. He has asked her to marry him, and she has agreed, although nothing has been said of love, nor kisses exchanged. Even though they love their men, these gals also like their freedom. Is marriage more than just a compromise? Can they achieve some happy medium? Join the ladies and the rest of the colorful cast of characters in the latest of Medlicott's popular homey tales. Product Description

For Hannah, marriage has never meant happily ever after. Having fled an abusive husband when her daughters were young, she's never had reason to marry again...until now. Her business partner, Max, has proposed because he doesn't want her to be taxed on his estate. Hannah is initially reluctant to enter such an arrangement but logic dictates that she accept. Then, after the wedding, she finds herself spending more time over at Max's and is shocked to discover that she loves him -- wildly and passionately! A part of her wants the marriage to become real, but she's scared of losing herself again -- and more scared, still, that Max doesn't feel the same.

Right when she desperately needs the counsel of her two closest friends, Grace is wrapped up with her partner, Bob, and Amelia is away in New York, being tempted by the glamorous life. Will Hannah find the courage to pursue a real marriage? And what will happen to her relationships with Grace and Amelia if she does?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wedding in Covington, April 29, 2008

I loved my latest visit to Covington. Life there is so peaceful and tranquil.

Hannah and Max tie the knot. An unexpected May snowstorm causes Lurina to be trapped out in the snow. She decides the time has come to move to a retirement home.

Many other adventures happen to this group of friends and family. If you have read the others in this series, you will love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most excellent!, August 15, 2006

This newest book in the Covington series is not only about Hannah Parrish, who, at the age of 75, is going forward with her wedding to George Maxwell (better known as Max), but also about the friendship between three exceptional women who share each other's lives. Although Amelia, Grace, and Hannah have lived quietly together in their farmhouse in Covington for several years, they are about to experience life changes that will be vastly different from any they could have expected. We struggle with Grace as she seeks answers on how to control her diabetes, and we take great pleasure in her relationship with her special friend, Bob, as it continues to grow. Then there is Amelia, whom many consider the most fragile member of this trio. After moving to Covington, Amelia discovered an amazing aptitude for photography, but now she seems to be growing weary of several things that are involved in her newfound career.

Within the pages of this book, through the relationship between Hannah and Max, we are allowed a rare glimpse into the deep-seated fears of intimacy held by many older people. Although Hannah and Max are getting married, both have neglected to tell the other that what began as friendship and a marriage of convenience, has grown into much more. In fact, to her own surprise, Hannah has come to realize that she has developed a deep love for Max and a surprising desire for passion which she cannot bring herself to discuss with him. Because of this, she is left to agonize over his feelings for her. Has he grown to love her as she loves him? Without the ability to communicate on an intimate level, she might never be sure.

Joan Medlicott has my deepest respect. I have found that her perceptiveness and depth of understanding of the emotions of women, at any age, is exceptional, as is her talent for writing. She puts down on paper the feelings and emotions that many feel but are too embarrassed to mention.

***** This is a story about love and friendship at any age and the many ways it can be expressed. If you have been following this series, you will immediately step right back into the lives of Amelia, Grace, and Hannah. However, make no mistake about it, if you have NOT been keeping up with these ladies, you will soon be under their spell and intertwined in their lives. Bravo, Joan! You've done it again! *****
