Story Behind the Book

The idea for this book came to me when speaking at Promise Keepers. There were many men who came to faith in Christ, but then failed in their walk the next week or the next month. So they assumed that this new life was not for them; they thought that God was so angry with their failure, they might just as well live on the fringes of the Christian faith, rather than making it the core of their lives. This is a message of grace, not only in establishing our relationship with God, but in reconciling with those we have wronged, or who have wronged us.

About the Author

Erwin Lutzer has been the pastor of Moody Church in Chicago since 1980. He is the author of numerous books with total sales of more than 1.5 million, including One Minute After You Die and the Gold Medallion award-winner Hitler’s Cross. He can be heard on three radio programs: Songs in the Night, Moody Church Hour, and the daily program Running to Win. As a popular conference speaker, Mr. Lutzer will be speaking at three Promise Keepers events this year. He and his wife, Rebecca, have three daughters and five grandchildren. They live near Chicago.

Erwin W. Lutzer is senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago. A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and Loyola University, he is the author of numerous books, including the Gold Medallion Award winner "Hitler's Cross" and the best seller "One Minute After You Die". He is also a teacher on radio programs heard on more than 700 stations throughout the United States and the world, including "Songs in the Night," "The Moody Church Hour," and the daily feature "Running to Win." He and his wife, Rebecca, live in the Chicago area and have three married children and seven grandchildren.


Rebecca Lutzer

Rebecca Lutzer is the wife of Erwin W. Lutzer, senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago, where they have enjoyed 28 years of ministry. For more than 30 years, Rebecca has been a pastor's wife and has used her gifts of hospitality, mercy, and teaching to minister to many women. She has taught Bible studies, counseled and discipled women, organized conferences and seminars, and spoken to women's groups. Rebecca was born and grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she attended Dallas Bible College. She is an RN and enjoyed working as a surgical nurse for several years. God provided numerous opportunities for her to bring comfort and peace to those going into surgery by sharing the love of Christ with them. It has always been Rebecca's passion to teach women how to grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. The heart of her message focuses on helping women learn how to live faithfully in the seasons of life, waiting for God to meet their needs in His time and way. She is the mother of three lovely married daughters and the grandmother of six adorable grandchildren. Rebecca and her husband coauthored "Jesus, Lover of a Woman's Soul," a book about Jesus' real relationships with women throughout His life--and how He changed their worlds.

In the opening chapter of this concise book (less than 100 pages) Lutzer writes, "Strictly speaking, of course, not one of us deserves redemption. God owes us nothing, but He nevertheless offers His undeserved grace. Though we deserve damnation, He invites each of us to be redeemed. Worthy or not, we come to Him to receive forgiveness and the assurance that God still has a plan for our lives."

Using Biblical stories and modern applications to those stories this is a book about how there is hope for anyone, no matter how bad they have blown it, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. I highly recommend this book especially for the following types of people:

1) Those who think they are too "bad" to be saved.
2) Those who think they are "good" and don't need to be saved.
3) Those who are enmity with God and know it - and aren't sure how to remedy it.
4) Those who are at enmity with others - and aren't sure how to remedy it.
5) Those who need to be reminded that God has a plan for them, and that no matter how bad you've blown it - there is hope for you because of the Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
6) Those of you who help others in counseling ministries.

It's a fantastic little book - concise, full of Biblical wisdom, a clear gospel presentation, and leads and will encourage and give you hope. I also recommend it highly as a gift to give to those who are confused, discouraged, and broken over their sin.

I was given this small book for Christmas. I had never "really" Blown It ...... ! I thought. But, I had and didn't know the reality. I have since purchased over 12 copies to be given to people who had important life "problems".......... this small book has always helped and always been appreciated.

It is a quick read and IT CHANGES LIVES ! I could not give it a higher reccomendation.
