Sonic Journey to the Zenith of Aural Pleasure, June 17, 2003
This review is from: Afterall (Single) (Audio CD)
The four mixes on this disc remind me of a symphony--elaborate variations on the main theme. Start with a straightforward Delerium track--great beat, can dance to it, haunting vocals, imaginative mix. Next, Satoshi Tomile Remix sets up a slowly intensifying and massive groove, which peaks just before a poignant piano cadenza. The Svenson & Gielen Remix is another lively mix with plenty of industrial sound, and the syncopated start to the Amniotic Insomniac Mix By Adrian Schubert demonstrates the highly electrified vocal pervasive throughout the track. It took me three hearings to reach a true appreciation for the complexity and brilliance of this accomplishment. (My car stereo just can't do it justice.) The best music I can find comes frum Leeb, Fulber, and their incredibly talented crew.

A glimpse into Chimera, May 22, 2003
This review is from: Afterall (Single) (Audio CD)
For those of us who have waited anxiously for something new for Delerium,This is as close as we are going to get until June24th when Chimera is released. Now that the creative team of Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb are back together, the sound is better then ever. After All was originally put on the Nettwerk website for free limited download to give a sneak peak of the Chimera disc. The sound echoes the Conjure One release (Rhys Fulber's project that involved Sinead O Connor,Poe and Chemda) but still resides nicely as a Delerium song. Those who hated the Poem cd might still be a little taken back by this release as well. The song is similar in sound but then again it isnt as melodic as some of the tracks on Poem. The song is more colder and electronic sounding the anything on Poem yet it still has the lush vocal styles that both Poem and Karma had. There are 4 tracks on the disc. The first is the album edit of the song which was the same as the free download. Track 2 is the Satoshi Tomiie remix. A 10 minute trance excursion that would work nicely into many DJ's sets. Track 3 is the Svenson & gielen mix. A little un-focused at times but still not bad. Hints of trance and progressive house show through here but it just doesnt stand out. Track 4 is the Amniotic Insomniac mix by Adrian Schubert. This screams Conjure One. The sound is there and this made the single worth buying! Anyone who loves the Conjure One disc needs to hear this mix! If this is a precurser to what the Chimera disc is going to be sounding like. I will be buying it on the first day! Also if you have never heard the Conjure One cd,I would highly recomend them as well. The sounds of Delerium is there but it seems to be mixing more arabic and world music in. Simply wonderful. Now we just have to wait for June24th for the rest of the Delerium disc. Im sure im not alone in the wait!
