Book Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sylvia Day, America's premier author of provocative fiction, delivers the debut novel from Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin.

The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He'd only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.

In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn't mind how much it was going to cost me...

Amazon Exclusive: Interview with Sylvia Day

Sylvia Day’s Afterburn has fans continuing to fall in love. How did her partnership with Harlequin and Cosmo Red-Hot Reads influence the new miniseries? What can fans expect? How does she embrace glamour?

Watch the exclusive interview on Kindle Daily Post.

"A deliciously rich 'reading-snack' that was short-ish, sure... but it had plenty of steam and romance to indulge and entertain me. My perfect bedtime read!" - Maryse Black

"Sylvia Day's writing is addictive, sexy and compelling and she has once again managed to make me fall in love with a mouthwateringly gorgeous yet flawed hero. I could just feel the passion and desire between Jax and Gia rolling off the page and I didn't want their story to end." - Aestas Book Blog

"Sylvia once again created a world that draws you in and characters that captivate you so much that you cannot possibly put the book down. I absolutely loved these characters, including the supporting ones, and became so instantly engaged in the story that I read it in one sitting." - Book Reader Chronicles

"Sylvia Day does it again! Just when I though that there was no way that she could possibly grab my attention so completely like with the Crossfire series, she gives us Gia and Jax. The writing is pure Sylvia Day - direct, effective, mouthwatering. A seasoned storyteller, she grabs our attention in every scene and gives us such emotionally intense interactions between characters, we are not just reading them, we are living them." - Natasha is a Book Junkie

"Afterburn is a captivating story of second chances. Gianna is a smart, relatable heroine, but the true star of this novella is Jax. Fans of Sylvia Day's Gideon Cross will find Jax irresistible. Like Gideon, he is an incredibly sexy but flawed hero. He is magnetic, and, like Gianna, readers will be helpless to resist him." - Fresh Fiction

3.0 out of 5 stars Too short and should have just put book 2 with it August 15, 2013
By StephS
Format:Kindle Edition
I must say... I love your writing but what's up with splitting your books up this much? First, the Crossfire series being dragged out and now this book was so short only to find out there is a book 2? Why not just make it one book? So frustrated with authors who keep dragging their stories out over spans of books to make more money.

Sorry to even have bought this one. You have lost me as a follower, for sure. This marketing stunt in stopping half way a story is annoying and does not achieve anything. Waste of time, wast of money, waste of effort. Go back to writing books, not selling a chapter or introduction! Not clear what was meant, but I am not impressed!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a book, perhaps a chapter August 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read and enjoyed other Sylvia Day books, but this one barely gets off the ground--it appears to be the first chapter of a book, rather than a book, and a long and unsatisfying first chapter it is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not her best work August 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was not into this book. I usually hate when others say this, but Jax is a jerk. And unlike other Sylvia Day books this one isn't long enough to show his redeeming qualities. You just think "girl have some self respect". He is crappy to her and she repays him by having sex with him again. This format is just too hard to pull off in 100 pages.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money... August 31, 2013

The book went no where and just ends. It felt more like a long drawn out chapter, than a book. Disappointing.

1.0 out of 5 stars what happened? August 28, 2013

If this book ended any more abruptly, I would say it was impossible. Is this the way to get me to buy the next book? Not a chance.

10 be continued??????
Characterizations were shallow. The story was disjointed. I thought it would be a fun summer read. It was just a waste of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars why? August 28, 2013
By Gitte

I wonder - happend to writing a book - finish it and move on to the next story. This very short story gave me a bad feeling of being manipulated. I'm sorry Sylvia Day - you lost me as a fan. However good your books are - man up - and make them at least a lenght worth reading.

How many pages?
It states 99 pages. Both Ms. Day and HM Ward are now breaking up popular books into smaller and smaller installments - a story that should be a trilogy AT MOST. Greed apparent; little regard for their readers.
