Editorial Reviews

Following recent excursions to Europe and Canada, the Afterdark series comes heads back to America. For this edition the featured city is Los Angeles, a place where music, movies, fashion and art all collide against a backdrop of perpetual sunshine.

Handling mixing duties are two of Los Angles’ finest DJs and Producers. From the southern outskirts of LA comes Jamie Thinnes and his Seasons Recordings imprint. Founded in 1996, Seasons has become synonymous with quality house music, releasing albums and singles from the likes of SUMO, Franck Roger, Fred Everything and The Rurals. On the second disc, the Groove Junkies takes us on a trip from the past, to the present to the future with classic tracks and unreleased gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet & Sophisticated, July 23, 2007

This double CD set is fantastic. It's what west coast techno of the 90's has progressed into - something I describe as urban electronica meets soulful deep house. If you are from here in LA and enjoy KCRW's evening lineup of eclectic deep electro-house then you'll enjoy this CD set. Don't get me wrong. I still love 90's techno but these tracks are the alternative when you'd rather chill with some friends and sip Martinis...or Mojitos, which may be the cocktail on the CD cover art. Enjoy!

ive never been to LA, dont even know a whole lot about the LA music "scene" I do know that this double cd set sounds great! Fast enough to get you up and dancing. At the same time though, its not so fast that you cant just sit and chill out to the grooves as well. Definitely get what you pay for in this case.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best - After San Francisco, January 28, 2007

Well, it took a while for the the Kinkysweet label to finally come home to LA. I think we all had been wondering why the series had never featured the City of fallen Angels. The Los Angeles installment is definitely one of the best. Both disks are remarkable soulfull blends of energetic deep house; a true "Tour de Force" of the classic West Coast style with an increasing spiritual undertone that the label has been introducing (with mixed results) into its compilations for some time now. In short, "Afterdark Los Angeles" is the best, surpassed only by David Ireland's first in the series - San Francisco.
