5.0 out of 5 stars Harley & Muscle Make The Best Mix CD's
This is the best mix of the After Dark mix series. The coolest track on the CD is by Karu. Check out the "Amazing Place" CD for producer Quentin Allen as Karu. There are other 12" releases on Silver Network, Dadhouse, Winding Road, Mimosa & Smooth Agent. This CD is a very consistant production with a good blend of jazz, hip-hop, techno, neo-soul, and deep house all...

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing
I really love the Afterdark and Bargroove cds, but was highly disappointed in this 2 cd set. Sure, its relaxing and the music is smooth and all that but I'd rather pop in one of those great Bargroove cds to get my night going.

This CD is a very consistant production with a good blend of jazz, hip-hop, techno, neo-soul, and deep house all together. The beats are very crisp and sound good in the car, the house or the club. Some songs tastefully use vocal snippets to add flavor. There is even a track featuring Warren Harris aka Hanna (Shadow Records, Silver Network, Flat & Round, Freerange). If you want good quality deep house, this CD is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kinkysweet does it again, May 16, 2006
This review is from: Afterdark: Milan (Audio CD)
With all of the different compilation CDs on the market, sometimes you just want to put something in your CD player while driving or sitting at home and relax. Growing up in Chicago, I am use to house and love, but that does not mean I want to listen to it at home. Grown up, adult-like, and can be played anywhere, Kinkysweet continues to churn out music that is palatable for anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 STARS..., July 5, 2006
This review is from: Afterdark: Milan (Audio CD)
... if it wasn't for the annoying Stevie Wonder wannabe on Disc 1/Track 12... he interrupted a blissful listening experience up until that point! Otherwise, a terrific 2-disc set that's right up there with Afterdark Chicago & Afterdark San Francisco.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harley & Muscle at it again!!, January 18, 2006

Theres not stopping the italian underground lords Harley & Muscle on the new series AfterDark series in Milan! The selection of tracks ranges from a deep, jazzy, sexy groove that will take you down the catwalk in the fashion mecca of the world. Both mixes features selected tracks off of Harley's label Soulstar & Muscles label Sweet Angel recordings. An excellent addition to AfterDark series has yet inspired more house music listeners to tune in on more unsung talent. Recommended !!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Grown Up" + Sophisticated = Milan "Afterdark", April 4, 2006

Summary:
Once again, the Kinkysweet label is staying true to its promise by providing those of us who grew up on House music from the early 1990's with a "grown up" house mix that is ideal for entertaining, bopping in your car, or just when you're cleaning or hanging out around the house or apartment.

The Groove:
The beats are more fluid than hard. If you are familiar with and would rather prefer to listen to Kinkysweet's other series, such as "MidnightSoul" or "Habitat" which enshrines more hard, hip-hop/soul-inspired House, you may not completely enjoy this particular installment because the beats are rounder and more soothing, but it still hits the spot. :)

Recommended Tracks:
In this particular installation, I highly recommend tracks 1 - 5. My personal favorites on the 'Milan' installment are tracks 1,5 and 8. It's a continuum, so the tracks flow/fade right into each other, so there is no interuptive silence between each song. For Disc 2, I recommend all of it. My all-time favorites on that disc, however, are tracks 7 (Amazing Grace) and 11 (Orange Glass).

Why Only Four Stars?:
Why four as opposed to five stars? Well, between tracks 6 and 8, the rythm flow dies down a bit for me, but it picks back up around track 8 with Davidson Ospina's "Mission of Love" (very nice).

Conclusion:
Finally, if you are seeking a "grown up", sophisticated interpretation of regular, Progressive and Deep House Music, look no further because "After Dark - Milan" provides just that. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotive and touching, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Afterdark: Milan (Audio CD)
This is my first exposure to the series, but with this initial impression, it will certainly not be the last. The first cd is a very beautiful mix, flowing on the light and mellow side, it still delivers a chunky deep beat that has breezes of breaks drift through. The vocals are tasteful with emotional melodies that keep them touching in a sense. Track 5 and 10 are certain highlights that get a lot of attention from me.

CD2 is slower, more minimal, and delightful. Although some may prefer the energy and emotion of CD1, this mix finds it's moments on Sunday mornings when you are taking it easy or in a state of recovery from the night before. Track 2 and track 8 have a very nice groove to them.

You can call it mature, but I would strongly refer to it as soul-filled bliss. This is a sound for those who are seeking depth in their music but still like to dance to themselves while home alone.

2.0 out of 5 stars What's so "grown up" about this??, April 11, 2006

Sophisticated and grown-up?? Is that what they call dull House music these days? Elevator music must be pretty "grown-up" for some of you, too! p.s. - just because something doesn't have much of a beat and you can't dance to it does not make something mature. This is to House what chill-out is to Trance - really only good as total background music - you won't remember a single song after it's over or really notice it's there. Totally forgettable. ...but if that's what you want, then by all means!
